Quick impressions on 2 Rhys Pinot (08 HS, 12 BW)

Had a couple of Rhys pinots that were quite opposite of what i expected… I never post TN b/c i suck at writing them… so let’s just call these impressions.

2008 Horseshoe - Pop/Pour - consumed over 2 hours. Initially nose is reticent, some sour cherry notes, mid palate seems thin/hollow. Not much structure/tannins either. This wasn’t giving off anything. After 2 hours, it picked up a little weight but still nothing interesting on the nose or flavors. I’d say solid hold on these and hope for the best? (was 2008 particularly weak vintage?) - I’d say it was a 86/87 pt wine.

2012 Bearwallow - Coravin’d a glass from a 375ml. Wow i thought BW was the weaker vineyard compared to HS, but not these bottles. Cranberry, cherry, some baking spice… surprisingly balanced for such a young wine. quite tasty… maybe it just hasn’t shut down yet? i’m certainly gonna drink through the half bottles i have (hold the full bottles for later).
