Question: best champagne glass?

Agreed, flutes are for show. No matter who makes them.

Flutes if done well have a single nucleation point at the bottom leading to a single stream of bubbles If that is what you want then I get it. If it is about the flute then the Waterford for me is among the prettiest although it sounds like many on this thread think you drink out of them once at your wedding and either throw em away or put them with the wedding dress that will never be worn again (or drank out of again.) If it is about the wine just go with a nice big glass - it’s not rocket science. So yeah, maybe flutes are mostly about show. Fifty years ago, we probably would have thought coupes were the way to drink champagne. Coupes are kind of cool…

I have two favorites, although I haven’t directly compared them to each other, or to Grassl and others.

I started with Gabriel-Glas Gold (GGG), a beautiful, mouth blown universal glass, very delicate looking but tougher than it looks. A great glass for champagne. The price has risen significantly, now $95@.

Then I saw a gorgeous glass Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon used on his social media posts. I asked him, then purchased the Lehmann “Jamesse Prestige” Grand Champagne Mouth-Blown Wine Glass #45. If they were good enough for Lécaillon, they’re good for me. It’s also what they use at Krug, and at a lot of restaurants in France (they are made in France)
They were very expensive, maybe $60-70@, and I bought the last few glasses available in the states several years ago. That’s not a crazy price by today’s standards, but they are now available for $39.99@, which IMO is a steal.

Here’s a side-by-side photo of the GGG and Lehmann prestige 45.

People seem suprised when I mention I wash all of my glasses in the dishwasher. For years now, we’ve never had one break in the dishwasher, while previously we had several handwashing glass casualties.

Cheers,
Warren

I was just watching this YouTube video from the “Friday Bubble.” They are using another Jamesse with a much bigger bowl. I need to have a set.

Edited because I initially posted the wrong video.

I used the XL bowl side by side with the regular Jamasse tulip bowl and I was surprised about the effect. BUY

So which Jamesse Synergie glass is this exactly??

Ditto to the above  post

It looks like either Synergie 60 or 75.

Yes, I’m thinking 60, the 75 is huge, much bigger than I want to drink my champagne out of. I always pour a balanced amount in accordance to the size and form of the glass anyway, and 75 cl glass is, well, huge.

I agree!

Which glass performed the best in your opinion?

BTW: I had the Gaston Chiquet Blanc de Blanc yesterday – very tasty wine and it was fun to drink it next to some Cote de Blanc Blanc de Blancs.

It’s my personal favorite go-to champagne glass to use overall.

It’s the 60 - the 75 is really big> I have the 60 and really like it.

I’m a big fan of the Grassl Liberte for champagne. Concentrates aromas nicely yet not too close to the nose, feather light, and just an all around elegant glass.

Finally snagged a couple Lehmann Jamesse Prestige 45’s and i absolutely love them! Like…i can’t get enough, ha! So fine/delicate in the hand/mouth and i love how they emphasize the aromas while keeping the bubbles. By FAR my favorite sparkling glass. IMHO it blows the Grassl out of the water and even tops my previous favorite GGG by a good amount.

Does anyone use these for still white wines? Just trying to get as much action with these as i possibly can, ha!

Grtz!!!
Yes, I actually use them for most every white wine and they are such a joy.

Love that! Will absolutley be doing that tonight!

Cheers!!

Another vote for Spiegelau Definition Universal, though I also use the Bordeaux glasses occasionally. I actually prefer these to the original Zaltos as they’ve been more robust in my experience (I’ve broken quite a few Zaltos but not a single Spieglau yet - and I always wash by hand).

I also really like the Sydonios Terroir Empreinte – Universal. If I feel like something more flute-like, the Riede Supereggio Champagne glass is a good alternative.

Love them for champagne but not a fan of these glasses with white. I’d rather go GGG on most whites. The Jamesse seem to.mute Chardonnays which are 80% of my white consumption lately.
