The entry level pH meters that run about $100 at a winemaking supply shop can be found elsewhere for a lot less. I got a couple on Amazon for around $20-25. There are other uses for these and the market is competitive.
If you are looking for a higher end meter, shop around more broadly to see if this translates. Perhaps a hydroponics supplier.
