*after seeing Brian’s post, how could I forget to include the 2005 Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fumé de Pouilly (I can only imagine what the Pur Sang and Silex are like!)
I have had the three bottom ones on your list, albeit not this year, and I would agree that they are all stellar wines. I would love to try the top two as well based on reputation alone.
74 Mondavi was a nice treat. It came from a private cellar sale where the wines were all in professional storage and had not been touched for the past 15+ years. It was a perfect example of how a perfectly stored bottle can last.
I’m sure I’m missing something but these come to mind:
1999 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas
1990 Krug
1987 Chateau Montelena Estate
1983 Dominus
1996 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Chabot
This is boring, but I might just have to pull a “DITTO” here! Funny that we were together for all of these! (also funny that other than one of them, it was the same weekend!)
What I meant was that there are plenty of evenings where things are open, maybe late where I am taking no notes. Maybe I should write them down the next day for later reference but at the same time not everything is meant to be cataloged that way by some romantic notion I hold onto that I will never admit to in front of people.
I am out of the 74 Mondavi that was very good. I believe I still have a few of the 94 Caymus SS Tex. Maybe we can have a shrinp and chicken a thon next year.
1970 Mayacamas Cab out of Mag during the Superbowl with some Snake River Farms “Kobe” Ribeyes. It was quite unbelievable how fresh that wine still was after all these years.
