PYCM is the best

We didn’t taste the PYCM 23s, but we did at other domaines (Bachelet-Monnot, Pernot, Dujac and Moreau). It appears to be an excellent vintage, albeit a solar vintage with high yields, I liked the whites more than the reds, and would compare the young white wines to vintages like 2015, 2016 and 2020.

It’s funny, I asked P-Y C about the reds and he said something to the effect that “that’s Caroline’s project” so I got the sense that he is not in control on the Reds.

I buy the NSG Boudots and NSG, and in 23 she added a couple of Chassagne-Montrachet rouges La Boudroitte and Clos Saint Jean that are supposed to be very good.

I’ve consumed 325 bottles of PYCM and have had 2 premoxed bottles (05 and 07 Meursault Perrieres, at 15 plus years old)

I have had 5 corked wines from him, but out of 325 that’s probably a below average rate.

That’s not a bad thing. In my view, they’re both absolutely top tier.

Chris, I literally can’t recall a single premox’d PYCM, and I drink it regularly. I don’t think you have much to worry about with 2016 forward.

Do you have any TNs? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on here.

Any guess why there is so little buzz around the reds?

She makes all the reds, he makes all the whites (including hers). That’s why her whites are just as good as his, if not better sometimes.

2018 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains Rouge
Beautiful wine, showing remarkably well in its youth. Its precociousness and profound density of fruit is unsurprising given the hot dry vintage. However, the fruit is lifted by freshness, acidity and complexity. Little oak but likely some whole cluster. I loved this wine.

I ended up with two free bottles. I had ordered the CM CM Les Champs Gains Blanc, which was both listed and pictured in the online ad. When the rouge arrived instead, I emailed them with the ad and the listing and asked for an exchange. They refunded the order and told me to keep the bottles.

I actually meant PYCM reds. Have you tried those?

I for one have not had a PYCM red, indeed I’ve never even come across one for sale.

I’ve found them fine but nothing special.

No, I’ve only had CM’s reds and PYCM’s whites.

I’ll be tasting a few reds and some lower end whites tomorrow, all 23s.
