We didn’t taste the PYCM 23s, but we did at other domaines (Bachelet-Monnot, Pernot, Dujac and Moreau). It appears to be an excellent vintage, albeit a solar vintage with high yields, I liked the whites more than the reds, and would compare the young white wines to vintages like 2015, 2016 and 2020.
It’s funny, I asked P-Y C about the reds and he said something to the effect that “that’s Caroline’s project” so I got the sense that he is not in control on the Reds.
I buy the NSG Boudots and NSG, and in 23 she added a couple of Chassagne-Montrachet rouges La Boudroitte and Clos Saint Jean that are supposed to be very good.
2018 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains Rouge
Beautiful wine, showing remarkably well in its youth. Its precociousness and profound density of fruit is unsurprising given the hot dry vintage. However, the fruit is lifted by freshness, acidity and complexity. Little oak but likely some whole cluster. I loved this wine.
I ended up with two free bottles. I had ordered the CM CM Les Champs Gains Blanc, which was both listed and pictured in the online ad. When the rouge arrived instead, I emailed them with the ad and the listing and asked for an exchange. They refunded the order and told me to keep the bottles.
