Tonight’s supper, following last evening’s indulgence, was a salad, with Mr.G’s lettuce and arugula, dressed with a Champagne-Provençale Vinaigrette, seasoned with onion powder, SI Onion pepper, Herbes de Provence, and sea salt. With the enjoyable salad, we had three pâtes, leftover from yesterday, Pâte de Compagne, Pâte Poivre Noir, & Pâte Geneviére. All was enjoyed on a warm summer evening on our patio. Accompanying wine was a 1996 Ridge Mourvedre Pagani Ranch (75% Mourvedre / 25% Zinfandel) - fill a half inch below the cork; tough cork to extract - bottom third of the cork was stuck, the top 2/3 broke in half, I tried an Ah-So to get the bottom out, it just pushed it down; so I strained it into a decanter and served. It had rich dark fruit, good acidity, and a pleasant dark finish. It was quite enjoyable with both the salad and the pâtes. It was a great warm summer evening meal.
Then to finish, while watching practice & qualifying for the German Grand Prix (via TiVo), since today was a rest day for the TdF, was a very nice, crisp, bright Pink Lady apple with ends of two bottles of Grappa, Banfi Grappa di Montalcino - not as hot as other time, perhaps because of the bright fruitiness of the apple, and the Badia á Coltibuono Wood-aged Grappa di Sangiovese, a little woody for the fruitiness of the apple.
