Question for the small winery folks in here 👇

How are you actually managing production tracking day-to-day?

I’m talking lot tracking, barrel movements, additions, lab readings, TTB reporting — the operational stuff that doesn’t involve selling wine.

Are you on dedicated software? Spreadsheets? A notebook and a prayer? Some combination of all three?

Asking because I keep hearing that most of the software out there is either built for 50,000-case operations or is brewery software with wine features bolted on — and that a huge number of small producers are just… making it work with Excel.

Curious if that matches your experience or if I’ve got it wrong. What’s actually working for you?

Hey there - this is a great question and one that is particularly relevant to me on a few fronts.

An important and ironic caveat: as of 7 days ago, I now work for the production management software I am about to tell you about! But I would have posted this reply the exact same prior to joining their team.

InnoVint is going to be your best option here, whether you are a 1,000 case winery or 100,000+ case winery. I have been a customer for my own winery (2,500 cases) for over 6 years now; it is the best platform in the space (hence why I jumped at the opp to sell it when it arose).

It can track everything from vineyard management and sprays, harvest sampling and processing, all fermentation work and lot management, lab analysis, aging, additions, bottling, inventory across multiple locations, inventory of ferm products with live depletions, one-click TTB reporting, new integrations with C7, COGS and cost accounting, and honestly a lot more and I have a number of personal favorite features I can share. Plus, it is accessible via phone, tablet, or desktop, in the cellar or on the road.

I was a pen/paper and excel guy before and this platform totally freed me up. The interface is very user-friendly and intuitive, and if any challenges arise the support team is incredible.

Innovint is popular and widely used, so you will probably see a lot of recommendations for it. I’ve used it with no major problems. But I would recommend you check out vintrace. The people I know who have used both Innovint and vintrace tend to prefer vintrace.

For what it’s worth, I have no affiliation with either platform. I don’t mean that to diminish Tom’s recommendation of Innovint, which I believe is sincere.
