Been using GoPayment with my iPad for credit card processing in the tasting room and have been generally happy . . . but always looking for ‘better alternatives’. A couple of the downsides of this system:
‘History’ data stored is minimal on the iPad itself, and the data stored on the website does not include specific items purchased or email addresses
Rates are a bit higher than I’d want to pay - though the convenience factor is huge and I don’t have to shell out for a complete POS System
I’ve looked at Square and they have similar ‘issues’ . . .
just wondering what others might have to say on the subject.
I agree with your points on the Gopayments. Used it last Oct. for our release party and it was nice. Have you looked into Quickbooks. They have a credit card swiper and its pretty nice system. That way the orders go directly into quickbooks and you already have all the info.
I have looked into it and it’s a more expensive system - and it doesn’t integrate with the iPad. I would need to hook it up to a desktop or laptop . . . BUT it is much more powerful in terms of retention of information - that’s for sure . . .
Anyone out there use the full QuickBooks POS System? (they offer a ‘freebie’ one as well . . . but not as ‘complete’ a package - no customer or inventory data tracked) . . .
We use QB at both our locations (Hood River & Dundee) and it’s fantastic for the amount of data available. I can work with all sorts of data sets, and after the initial “how much freakin data do we have to enter??” hump was passed, things are running very smoothly. It’s now set up to handle the club too, but as of now I don’t think we’re doing automatic batch processing for the club shipments. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any way to use it on a tablet as a POS system. The dilemma is that I don’t want to get two more POS terminals in here (Dundee) because they’re stuck in one spot at the tasting bar. A tablet running QB POS synced to our inventory and terminals would be perfect.
Larry, it’s sort of a kludge, but if you view history online in the iPad app, you can see items purchased and can add the customers email address or any other contact info to your iPad contacts.
I really wish when downloading transactions you could prefill the invoice created.
Hi everyone 1st post here so I guess I’m a fresh Berserker here on the boards. I use Gopayment for the simple fact that there is a customer care phone number to call and the ease of running transactions. It was hard for me to locate any positive comments about the Square customer service so I just called up Gopayment who was very helpful in setting up an acct. However some of my work associates use square without a problem, so If it’s not broke don’t try to fix it.
you can look at ewinerysolutions.com. They have leveled pricings based on production / sales levels. Might be able to help you out. Sat through a showcase by the Owner and Developer and I was pretty impressed by the amount of data collection they can procure on their customer saleslips.
Again, I have no idea what they charge - but they apparently work with everyone from the massive / corporate wineries to small boutique houses.
Another vote for quickbooks POS. A lot of History data that can be used to seamlessly create email campaigns based upon purchase history. A no brainer as the software and setup are affordable and easy…and integrates with QB for accounting ease too.
We just switched over from QB POS to Square register on the iPad with added wireless printer & cash drawer… I didn’t enjoy QB POS. Square register seems to be working well & customers enjoy it. Also, eliminates a lot of paper waste as customers choose to get receipts via text, email or printed (or not at all). I’d recommend it.
forgot to mention… the payment history in the square app isn’t that great, but they do offer detailed information online that is more than enough for our needs.
It’s one thing to be able to process credit cards, which of course is imperative, BUT once you get to where you have a lot of retail customers who need their wines shipped, and/or have a wineclub, having a customer management system where you can track all your customer interactions, and their associated shipments is critical. We just switched to VinNow,+ ShipCompliant, + PackNShip in order to try to have a seamless record of all these items.
QuickBook is good but it is quite expensive. Even though QuickBook recently launched a credit card swiper but costs are really very high for each swipe. I think go payment is good keep on that, service is good and charges are not so high.
One more vote for QB POS and QB Pro. I am happy with them at both wineries, they integrate well. Initial cost not the cheapest but has been trouble free for 3+ years now and would not change anything.
At Foursight before the tasting room we did appointments and would have folks buy the wine from our website off a laptop, before iPads. Even took some orders at events that way.
