Portland, Maine - Musar - Oct 9

Very cool! If you end up going to Bandol, let me know which winery visits were your favorite. We’re headed to Nice in February and I’m going to drive over to Bandol for a day. I’d like to host a Bandol tasting sometime this winter in preparation. Hope you’re game!

My pleasure!

I won’t be going to Bandol, this trip will be Pyrenees, maybe as far as San Sebastien, might not even get as far east as Pegau (gasp!).

But I have an under-the-radar Bandol suggestion and will bring a bottle with some age to the Musar dinner.

Best,

Dan

Sounds wonderful, hope you have a great trip! Looking forward to reading / hearing about it. My 12 bottle VinGardeValise just arrived for our Nice / Bandol trip so let me know if you’d like to borrow it.

Mysterious and exciting, can’t wait!

If there’s room for one more, I am very interested in this. I’m a huge Musar fan and have just moved back to the area, so it would be great to get together with a likeminded group. I have a 2004 Musar Rouge that I could bring. Once a firm date is set, I can hopefully confirm my availability.

Welcome back to Maine! There should be plenty of room for you to join us if it works with your schedule. I’ll let you know when I hear from Lindsey on the list of potential dates. Looking forward to meeting you.

@Dan_Kravitz, @David_W1, and @DougS do 10/8 or 10/9 work for you for some Musar?

Yes, I should be able to make either of those days work. Around what time will we get started, or do you know yet?

Also, how many people total do you have? I have two friends who might be interested if there’s room. One is on this board and another I can talk to directly.

Either date is probably good for me, either alone or + Eileen.

I’ll know more tomorrow.

Thank you!

Hello! I just found this forum a week or two ago. Then this thread when I searched for Maine. I’d love to connect with other local folks, I live in Portland. If not for this one maybe the next. I’m happy to contribute towards dinner.

All the best,
Ben

The tasting will begin at 6pm at Grippy Tannins.

I think there are around 8 folks tentatively confirmed if we choose the October dates and I’d guess we’ll end up in the ballpark of 10 - 15. I’ll put you down with a +2 and let me know if your friends can’t make it. @Dan_Kravitz and @David_W1, since you’ve seen the space, what do you think should be the maximum number of people?

Excellent, looking forward to seeing you again!

Great, welcome to the board! Which dates work best for you?

I think 15 is the maximum. I’m thinking about the wine more than the space. Twelve people means 2 ounces, a good taste. With 15 people it’s just over 1.5 ounces per person which imo is still just enough.

That makes perfect sense, thanks.

I would keep in mind that we’ll probably lose a few ounces to sediment on some of these wines. I tend to think 12 is a good max, but I’m sure whatever you decide is fine.

@Kirk.Grant – might you be able to make this?

My other friend can make the 9th but not the 8th.

Musar seems to be a motivating theme so I think we’ll likely go over 12 this time but I’m guessing it’ll usually be more like 8 - 12.

Excellent, I’ll add a vote for the 9th!

I’m in for the 9th. Eileen will not be able to make it. I would like to invite 1 - 3 other people depending on space available. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Dan
