Popeyes Chicken Sandwich

Sold out but tried the fish. The tartar sauce wasn’t bad and made a surprisingly decent fish sandwich when assembled with a bakery sourced Portuguese roll.

The roll is typically 60% of a sandwiches quality. Not the best recommendation.

While I do like Popeye’s (my wife and I are guilty of having Popeyes and Champagne here and there), I don’t really get ordering a fried chicken sandwich when there is just plain ol’ fried chicken available (as opposed to somewhere like Sun of a Gun when you’re not in the mood for seafood). I’d rather have less bred and more chicken + breading.

Hard to eat fried chicken while riding in the car, for one. Gets fingers greasy, which isn’t alway a good thing, depending on your situation. That all said, would be really cool if Chick-fil-A tried fried chicken.

I don’t eat in my car for some reason, but this is a good point.

I finally had a chance to eat at Popeyes yesterday. I was surprised how good their sandwich is. It’s not what they serve at other fast food joints. Once a year, when I’m in Atlanta for a trade show, one of the showrooms serves Chic-fil a for lunch. I thought that was pretty good until I tasted Popeyes. The CFA is more like a chicken patty. Popeyes is nice and crunchy. Not greasy. I thought my Popeyes experience was a one-off. Guess not.

I had my first Popeye’s chicken sandwich as well on Jan. 1 (in the Yakima, WA location, of all places…shocker, zero line). Anyway, I was quite impressed. It was delicious. The red beans and rice was super tasty, too. My wife, who really doesn’t like fast food, commented that the bite I gave her was really good. For the rare indulgence, I’ll be going back.

I’m thinking about what this would be like paired with Champagne.
