Popeyes Chicken Sandwich

This is so funny! I tried Popeyes spicy sandwich. The actual chicken is excellent. The bun I am not a fan. The aioli with cajun spice really didn’t
make the sandwich better for me. I am still a fan of chick fil a when they are " a pointe". That being said there is no better chicken than popeyes spicy to me
that doesn’t come from a specialty place.

A chicken posse.

I am sure it’s national, we love our local diner’s “Broasted Chicken.”

Huge pieces of moist meat with great thin crust.

They beat Popeye’s in our taste off, but I love that chicken from Popeye’s!

KFC is not for my palate. Nor Church’s.

probably been said already… but i don’t think Chick-fil-A sandwichs are anything special… but that SAUCE is amazing. plus i like the grilled sandwich so much more… fried is just too greasy…
sauce + grilled chicken sandwich makes CF great…

pop eye is just good fried chicken. sandwich or not. but it’s still fried chicken…

Church’s is extremely poor man’s Popeyes. KFC is in a different category. That said, I love fresh, hot, just fried KFC before the skin gets soggy. Actually, I love nearly any fresh, hot, just fried chicken, but prefer Popeyes. And the red beans and rice…oh lawdy!

My Mom’s family would get Popeye’s every Friday evening during the summers when folks were in town congregating at my grandparents. Bunches of aunts and uncles and cousins. I absolutely love a breast, thigh, drumstick, biscuit, and side of red beans and rice. And as I got older, an ice cold beer instead of a coke.

should be back in stock in 2-3 weeks and stocked up for the long-term…can’t wait

Yeah Church’s is weak now. Dunno what it is, but it’s just not as good as popeyes. Fresh KFC original is pretty bomb. Dunno if anyone has a Pioneer chicken next to them, but that’s good fast food fried chicken as well

When I was young, I worked at a local chain called The Drumstick. The chicken was outstanding, it had a thin crust which I prefer (flour, dip in milk, flour again, then into the fryer). They’re long gone, but luckily one of their employees started a copycat way back in the 60s called the Wishbone. Exact same menu and recipes, and it’s still around making great chicken to this day (it’s a sit-down place). Better yet, it’s only 4-5 miles from me. I go there for chicken every couple of months.

I do like Popeye’s too, but there isn’t one very close to me.

Don’t worry guys, we’re back in business! https://twitter.com/PopeyesChicken/status/1172118882154364929

Had lunch today with a couple buddies who had yet to try the Popeye’s spicy chicken sandwich. Unanimous verdict - - - worthy of the hype!

I have to say the version I had today was superior to the version I had during the first run. Sauce is more abundant, and spicier than before. Greater qty of pickles, as well. The breading on mine was also better than before. While we waited in line, we could see an employee preparing the chicken breasts by dredging them in a significant amt of flour, then putting them into the fryer.

If this sandwich were offered at a bar & grill for $13 with a side of fries or side salad, no one would bat an eye. This is truly one of the best cheap eats in America for $3.99.

I was musing out loud how much this menu offering increases the value of existing Popeye’s franchises. Gotta be at least a $100K bump IMO.

That’s what’s funny to me, with these line-ups. Don’t people put any $ value on their time? Maybe if you’re on a very tight budget or don’t work, but that’s not who’s waiting in these line-ups. Wild.

Need that Insta pic for my timeline! [rofl.gif]

I saw very few people ordering just for themselves. Lots of multiple sandwich orders walking out with solo customers.

I wouldn’t wait hours for this. 45 mins from lining up to receiving a fresh out of the fryer sandwich isn’t egregious IMO. You go to a popular resto, wait a bit to get seated by the host(ess), wait a bit more for server to arrive with menus, a few mins to place your order, then wait for your food to be prepared and served…it’s gonna be at least 30 mins from when you walk in till when you start eating.

Here in the Bay Area, a lot of service-oriented businesses have been having difficulty finding and keeping workers, even with the substantially higher minimum wage offered here than other areas of the country. Popeye’s has always had a rep for having employees who were more lackadaisical than those found at the In N Out/Chik Fil A level places. The folks at the location I was at were hustling, but I could only see 3 people working (fry cook, sandwich maker, cashier). A couple more employees would’ve certainly kept things moving faster. Based on a few people ahead of us who left due to the wait, and likely more than a few who arrived and left immediately when they saw the length of the line, the franchise owners would no doubt love to have more staffing if they could.

I get that the hype/FOMO is fueled to a decent extent by people willing to line up. But it’s obvious that the cost of additional staffing would easily be offset by the additional revenue/profits from sales lost by folks who decide on other dining options.

I value my time more than that and would not compare a fast food restaurant to waiting for a table at Diavola. Different strokes I guess.

I stopped in for a 9 piece of chicken to go and was wondering about the lines until I saw the sandwich was back. the person filling the order exclaimed - “Someone is buying chicken! Thank you!”

I considered ordering one to try but the wait for sandwiches looked pretty significant since most people were ordering at least 10.

That’s bogus. Diavola doesn’t even serve chicken sandwiches. Who even goes to a restaurant that doesn’t have chicken sandwiches? neener

It’s the same chicken, regardless if it’s on a bun, or on a plate, right?

Well, you got me there Alan! [swoon.gif]

I went by my local Popeye’s at lunch today. I swore I’d never darken their doors again due to their piss poor service but you guys have been raving about this sandwich so I thought I’d give it a try. They were out of the chicken sandwich along with french fries, sprite and couple of other items I fail to recall as I was spinning on my heels and heading right back out the door empty handed. I should have known better than to open their front door again. Shame on me.
