Hello all! Which one of these two would you pick at a restaurant at the exact same price? I am thinking the 01 but I have not had any of them so hopefully somebody here has? I am also looking at Vogue 1. Cru 99 which is also a possibility
Mikael, have had both over the past month and the 2000 was the better wine. With the caveat, as you know, that we only drink bottles the 2000 had more bright fruit, alluring nose and secondary characteristics. The 2001 IMHO needs more time to develop the same level of complexity and enjoyment. You can’t go wrong with either of them though. Enjoy!
I too prefer the 2000 to the 2001.
Per the comments in the '85 Ponsot thread, I’ve experienced bottle variation. A 375ml bottle purchased in Burgundy (opened in 2008) was very elegant and pure. A 750ml bottle purchased in the states was incredibly advanced, not showing like a grand cru, and a shadow of the wine from the smaller bottle. I’ve drunk the 2001 just once–it was rather uninteresting, not giving much on the nose or palate–perhaps closed, but my thought at the time was that it was just not a great wine.
