Pommard officially applies for Grand Cru Status...

The whole concept of either vineyard being raised to grand cru is utterly laughable. That’s perhaps best illustrated by the fact that 90+% of the posts in this thread talk about everything but Pommard.

Very diplomatic

Though I wouldn’t put it as strongly, thinking of elevating these two, and leaving others like Les St. Georges, Vaucrains, CSJ and others (in Volnay and Chambolle) as 1ers…does seem like a pie in the sky marketing effort that could backfire a bit.

I have a feeling if one of them were to get the Grand Cru status, the others will start getting competitive, and there will be a lot of pressure on the adminsiatration to make lots of changes. It will be fun to watch.

Stuart: I think you attribute a degree of perfection to the process that does not reflect the reality in Burgundy. The personalities definitely played a role, and not apocryphally. Certainly the AOC tries to look at historic reputation. But in Burgundy, individuals definitely matter in the process, at every step. It is part of its charm, and its frustration.

For some reason when talking about Fourrier CSJ this thread came to mind

So…Fourrier CSJ big bottles at pileon auction -

******Fourrier sold some new releases at auction; the prices were extremely strong, so he probably priced the wines close to what they made at auction. ********

“Fourrier’s 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques far exceeded its high estimate of $3500 for a 3 bottle case of magnums by selling for $10,455, including buyer’s premium, to a NYC based collector – a new and emphatic world record.

Thanks…I participated in the discussion in that threat too.

I asked Tom ( in that thread ) if he prefers Fourrier CSJ or Jadot CSJ.

If I ask you the same question - what would be your answer ? [wink.gif]
