Please Ignore - FedEx Ground Rant

Yeah - that seems to be the only real solution here. The wine did finally arrive yesterday, btw.

Have all wine shipped to the closest FedEx storefront. Easy for me as I live 2 minutes from one.

I prefer UPS. We’ve had the same driver for years and he’s terrific. Never have to sign for alcohol (we’re on the top floor of a three flat), so that’s not unimportant. FedEx seldom rings our bell, but leaves boxes of wine in front of our door (which is on the public sidewalk) without notice. No bueno

This is a broader question about alcohol deliveries. I realize this is unlikely, but suppose an adult signature is required but the driver leaves it on the doorstep. Then suppose some minors grab the box and create some damage while under the influence of the alcohol. Who is responsible? Suppose you don’t ask for a signature on the shipment, and the same thing happens? Suppose the provider doesn’t have a license to ship to your state and this happens? Any legal opinions out there?

That’s funny Tom.

No, they really don’t care about shippers either.

Just received yet another email telling me my wine won’t be delivered today. Delivery put off until Friday. That will make eight days it has been sitting at the local center, or bouncing around in a truck without delivery. We’ve kept someone home every day to sign for the package :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:. FedEx is the shits!

I mean… after 2 missed days, or 3, or 4 and countless people in this thread telling you to redirect to a FedEx store? I think at this point you might only have yourself to blame.

I have been able to use the hold at location which is abu=out 2 blocks from my house without problem.

My Fedex guy is great. He honks or calls me when he gets to my office. Never complains even if I have 4 or 5 box shipment. Love Him.

I’m not sure every FedEx driver will accept this, but a year ago a driver recommended I do the following- and subsequent FedEx drivers including UPS drivers have also accepted:

Tape a note to the outside of your front door requesting that they accept the note as your signature for the package because you can’t come to the door.
Print your name legibly.
Sign your name with date.
List your date of birth.

This has worked like a charm, I never missed a delivery this fall, even when I wasn’t home! We’re in a quiet neighborhood where I’m not worried about a box of wine sitting on the porch for an hour or 2.

I did that once on an important delivery, but my FedEx Express guy is a stickler and wouldn’t leave it.

Even when I pick up at my local FedEx store, they have started scanning my driver’s license. They are getting tighter with requirements.

@Andrew_K

If the nearest FedEx office wasn’t 50 miles away, I would have done so. Not everyone lives in the big city!

There are authorized drop points as well like grocery and drug stores.
