I just realized I grabbed a few during lastbottles last bonanza and was curious as to what to expect. I went to the website and its pretty interesting. They seem to have something for everyone.
I have on order:
Evening Land Cote de Nuits Villages 2011
Evening Land Vosne Romanee 2010
I thought when I pulled the trigger I was getting US grown wines with some kitchy euro-names. I fear I have some fune en route. I guess I can always regift… ![snort.gif [snort.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/b/bdc3944606213c4dca6c1169cf0a166c8bc4f8c9.gif)
Cheers!
That’s what happens when you go over to the Dark Side.
lol.
Jay, I had my first 12% abv last week and it did not suck, granted I needed a magnums worth to catch a buzz though.
I can’t keep track of all the change w/ Evening Land. Their primary business is Oregon, making Pinot Noir & Chardonnay from Seven Springs. They had Lafon as a consultant for their project & he would make some village wines from Burgundy under their label. They used to have a Sta Rita Hills component which had been sold to Rajat Paar’s La Cote project, but now he has taken over much of Evening Land’s business. Someone else may have better detail.
I wasn’t thrilled w/their “Burgundy” wines, I but that said they weren’t horrible. I would recommend their Oregon wines though.
A couple guys I know that were big Cali Cab fans switched to scotch. A bottle lasts a lot longer; it’s less expensive; and you catch that buzz faster.
I had the 2010 Vosne a month or so back… at $35 it seemed like a good deal. It was spicy with sappy fruit, some anise on the back end. A little awkward though. Was hoping for something more to back up the truck at that price. Decent wine, probably won’t buy again though.
Cool. I can start with Johnny Walker Blue label.
I have some 5% ABV Moscato if you want to go full retard.
WS gives big scores to the Eola-Amity Hills Seven Springs Pinot and Chards going back to around '07 I think.
Too much oak for too little wine.
