Pizza Night: 08 Dom de Provence Rose, 07 ESJ Bone-Jolly, 02 Siduri "Hirsch" Pinot

Sunday night was pizza night at our place in Oakland. Tina and Glenn came over and brought an amazing pecan pie that Tina made. Some other friends were suppose to show but couldn’t get their act together to get on BART head over here from SF.

We started with an appetizer of toast with goat cheese and roasted Syrah grapes then moved onto a baby green salad with mint, peaches, and pistachios. Then moved on to two pizzas:

  1. Traci’s roasted poblano, roasted red pepper and corn pizza with a little cilantro
  2. Raclette cheese, mushroom and prosciutto pizza.

The wine:

2008 Domaine de Paris, Rose, Cotes de Provence (Grand Vin de Provence)
Imported by the now famous or some might say infamous Dee Vine Wine in SF. Another winner of a Rose. Ripe strawberry, limestone, earthy spice and nicely crisp. A terrific quaffer to accompany the salad. 88/100

2007 Edmunds St John, Bone-Jolly, Gamay Noir, Witters Vineyard (El Dorado Country)
Alcohol is listed as 12.9% and it tastes much richer/weightier than the listed alcohol would suggest. This is terrific wine. It is floral, spicy with a subtle smokiness to it and rich slightly “grapey” reddish/black fruits. Very enjoyable.

2002 Siduri, Pinot Noir, Hirsch Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
This wine is in a terrific place right now and will probably hold there for another 3-5 years before starting a slight downward descent. The nose is very “Hirsch” with blackberry pie, earth and spice. The palate has terrific acidity, earth, spice, sweet fruit. Nice texture, length and palate presence. It shows some Burgundian elements on the nose with that wonderful sweet CA fruit. Well done. 93/100

We then had some of Tina’s homemade Pecan pie…and called it a night.

Thanks for the notes, Tony. I love Bone Jolly, but for some reason, I haven’t gotten my hands on any '07. Must rectify that.
