Met up with Joe W. & Leah A. to chow down on some amazing pizza at Mozza and drink great burg. The restaurant was PACKED when we got there and we took a seat at the bar to eat. If you haven’t had pizza at Mozza I highly suggest it. Really nice bubbly crust with top notch ingredients.
My WOTN was the Barthod but Joe was going gaga over the Drouhin. I was surprised by the condition of the bottle… considering I got it for $90 at a random store that had nothing over $30 wines.

2001 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (1/2/2010)
this wine needs a lot of time, but if you’re gonna open it up now I highly suggest a good dose of air… it really opened up toward the end of the night.
A beautiful light violet nose with earth and a touch of oak. An incredibly soft/silky palate expressive of the region with a very expressive sweet cherry mid palate and a long long sweet fruit finish that goes on forever with wonderful balanced acidity. Just got better and better as the night goes on… the length of the fruit coats your mouth. (93 pts.) -
1997 Domaine Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (1/2/2010)
What a beast of a wine, I love the power and expressiveness it imparts the moment you pour it into your glass. The nose has a touch of moss with dark brooding fruit and mushrooms. On the palate there is a load of tart fruit and dirt that is incredibly powerful and dominates your palate. Tannins on the finish that resolve after a hour or two to make way for more dark fruit… I loved the power behind the wine but I wish there was more complexity on the palate.
BUT the wine shut down hard after the 3rd hour… so hold for awhile longer plz. (92 pts.)

2006 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (1/2/2010)
a really soft butterscotch nose that developed over the hour with a layer of rock at the very top. A very voluptuous mouthfeel, fat and syncing with vintage characteristics. Lots of sweet apple and minerality with a nice underlying acidity at the end. The finish of lemon and apple goes on for awhile. It really started to open up over the course of the next few hours. 1987 Joseph Drouhin Bonnes Mares - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (1/2/2010)
great condition bottle, excellent fill. An odd bright honeysuckle nose with light barnyard funk that melds in with soft strawberries and light soy. The softest wine of the night with layers of sweet cherry, wood, hints of “moss” with some almost green/sour acid. Very long lingering finish of sour cherries and sprinkles of dirt. Drink now, no need to hold. (91 pts.)
