I am planning on attending again this year. Looks like a bit smaller group of wineries this year.
Jay,
I’ll be there pouring August West, the 2012 Sierra Mar and Peterson Pinots, as well as 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Graham Pinots. See you there.
Gregg, our General Manager, will be there (as I will be pouring at the Austin Food & Wine Festival). I encourage you to drop by our table and ask Gregg really difficult questions and ratio of malic to tartaric on the juice…and then tell him that you are just messing with him. Always fun…

I wish I could get there, Jay, but not this year, I’m afraid. Hope it goes well. Ed, have a great visit there!

Dark Lord Day is the same day. With the price hike (well, last year it went up) and the smaller amount of producers, it makes this a pass sadly.
The first result that popped up when I googled pinot days was a $60 ticket offer for the Chicago event. You could get your money’s worth without leaving the Ss – Sanford, Scherrer, Siduri, Small Vines, Sojourn, etc. I count more than 60 wineries pouring at the event. Strikes me as a pretty good ratio. The best deal last year was the VIP ticket which, besides getting you in early for special tastings, got you a $50 credit on wine purchased at the event. They sold something like $20,000 worth of wine last year, and I think they have the same deal this year. In any case, this was probably the most fun of all the PD events I poured last year, and I hope you’ll be able to wrap up your Dark Lord … (festivities?)… in the morning and come booze it up with us in the afternoon.
stewart, that’s still a $15 (and well, $20 increase with the discount codes that used to be available) increase with less producers than what it was the first several years here.
I made the decision last year not to go unless there were the amount of producers there had previously been, and on first glances that doesn’t seem to be the case (I say this as someone who had been to 3 or 4 of the previous Pinot Days here in Chicago (there were a couple I missed due to work)).
My wife and I plan on going. Being a friend of Sojourn (and I’m sure some other places) will get you a 15% discount on the ticket. We don’t get to tastings much, especially together, so we are looking forward to having a sitter and going to this. We’ve been to it twice before I believe. I think there may have been more producers when we went the first time, but I’m still satisfied with the number I see this year. I’m sure I’ll find a producer or two that I haven’t tried before and will enjoy.
I havent gotten my tix- anyone have the discount code???
That’s a more sensible approach for a large wine event such as this one, Craig. I’ve been going to Pinot Days in San Francisco for years - unfortunately I won’t be able to make it this year due to a conflict on that date - but the total number of wineries pouring shouldn’t affect the decision on whether or not to attend. There are only so many winery tables you can get to in three hours, and if there are 60 wineries pouring, you won’t come close to being able to taste at every table anyway. There are a wide range of familiar producers there that should interest most California Pinot fans and undoubtedly some new ones to discover. But beyond the ones you’re interested in checking out, it doesn’t really make any difference whether the total number of wineries there is 60 or 160.
Unless I missed it, I didn’t get a discount code for this event this year. Probably the first time ever. I hope that means demand is strong. There is this deal out there Pinot Days Chicago Discount, Tickets, Deal
Well, that is cheaper than with the 15% discount. I’ve never heard of that site before, is it legit? I might as well save some money and buy through there.
