Pignan or Pialade x4?

I’m a big fan of Des Tours. That said, the only Pialade I’ve purchased is the 2005 and it was shockingly good.

Aren’t we somewhat talking about ‘apples vs oranges’ here? Isn’t the Rayas Pignan 100% Grenache? Or am I missing something here? It would be tough to compare a 100% Grenache or mainly Grenache-based wine to something that is not, no?

I do know that there is a Domaine de Pignan that produces a CdP but this is not part of the Rayas family.

Am I missing something here - or just confused?

It´s simply about QPR … or in other words: is PIGNAN so much better than La Pialade to pay 4 times the price?
I also compared it with the des Tours VDP … and this is a similar blend …

Pialade is 17-18€ at the domaine. CdR 14-15€. VdP 9-10€.

2008 is possibly the best Pialade vintage I’ve had. Have yet to try Pignan. CdR was fantastic as well.

Depending on how much other Reynaud wines I’d have, I’d certainly go for the Pialade. Its drinking window might be shorter than the CdR, but I find it quite ofter has more subtlety. I love all of them anyway.

In 2008 Emmanuel Reynaud declassified most of Rayas+Pignan and a great part of Fonsalette … bottling less than half of the usual quantity (which is always low indeed) - that´s why La Pialade (the rest) is better than usual (I suppose, but I haven´t tasted the ´08)

IMO if you wanna go solely by QPR, then you’d only buy the VdP because most of the aromatics that you find in all Rayas/Tours are there. You don’t get the complexity, the length etc. but vs. Fonsalette at 5-6x, Rayas at 10-12+x, QPR cannot be beat.

Pialade 2007 is not too shabby either, same for 2006, only mixed experience I had was 2003 and it was 3-4 years ago so maybe it had started to fade.
