So I took off my blazer today after a casual Friday, felt something odd in my front jacket pocket, and lo and behold, it was a 94 year old cork from a great evening several weeks ago. I forgot that I put it there, but now remember doing so as, even in a slightly inebriated state at the end of the night, I remember being surprised by the condition of the cork. Surprised not only that it remained in one piece, or showed any seepage, but most of all because it was still relatively spongy - firm, but spongy. Just perfect.
The wine was outstanding as well. Amazes me that a well-stored Bordeaux from a decent vintage can age so effortlessly.
I should have turned the top of the cork correctly toward the picture so you could see the Chateaux mark on top, “L” for Leoville. Cool to see it so clearly on the live version.
Ok, sorry, I’m a dork, but I like this.
