I thought Philly was a rather large city with a very diverse population. You mean to say there are only three people that drink/enjoy wine??? Your city is off my visit list. I can’t even imagine the wine lists at the local restaurants that only have three wine geeks in the city.

I’m in the PHL/South Jersey area every few months and we always get together with Berserker-extraordinaire Bud Carey. Maybe we can plan something. In fact, we’ll be spending a few weeks there in December. I know of at least one NYC Berserker who will probably drive down to join us. My wife’s cousins own a wonderful little Italian BYO place in Havertown.
Tons don’t even have a list. Philly has plenty of pure BYOB restaurants. The polar opposite of Texas where every restaurant has a license, sells crappy wine and won’t let you bring yours in.
Why even bother with the wine lists at restaurants in Philly. A majority of the great restaurants allow BYOB with no fee. Tons of great places to eat (and I did live in SF for 5+ years for comparison) and I can bring what and as much as I want!
Chris, let me know when you are in the area. I am very close to Havertown.
Havertown? I am from Havertown and now live nearby.
There is good food in Havertown? Since the Bubble Gum Factory closed - I didn’t think there was anything worth eating there.
Anyway - maybe we can plan something there.
Randy: Watch out I am visiting. And Philly has a great wine scene especially since it is mostly BYO because of our wonderful PLCB.

Ted, my wife’s cousins’ place is Giampino’s on W. Chester Pike. It’s a very nice little restaurant. Great food, creative cuisine, competent service, very affordable.
Gee, I have never been there. I’ll try it. That area has a number of Italian restaurants. And I think it is a hotbed of folks from Abbruzzo.
How about West Side Gravy in Collingswood tomorrow? Short notce, but a thought. Had a great meal there Friday. I’m up for something.
Having just moved here from Boston, I’m rapidly discovering that Philly is the BYOB capital of the world! In the past month I’ve had fantastic BYOB meals at Le Bec Fin, Matyson (twice), and Bibou. At the latter, a couple at the next table even generously shared their '94 Ch. Margaux with us.
Not to mention, I don’t think we paid corkage at any of them (Matyson may actually have been $5, I forget).
The state-operated wine shops and shipping laws may stink, but the ridiculous liquor license requirements (and great restaurant scene) do make this an amazing place for BYOB.
