Phil Reich???

Been reading JoyceGoldstein’s book on the Calif Cuisine movement (quite a good read, btw).
She refers in there to PhilReich and the stellar wine list he created at Michael’s in the '80’s.
She cryptically refers to him leaving after he could no longer “deal with people”.

Anybody have any knowledge whatever happened to Phil Reich and what this statement means??

When I was falling in love, seriously, with wines; Phil Reich was wine manager at LiquorMart in Boulder.
He was one of my mentors and exposed me to many a great btl of wine.

What’s the book Tom ?

If anybody knows, I d love to find out.He worked for me in the late 70s. Brilliant but neurotic as getout.

Nick…it’s “Inside the Calif Food Revolution”. Quite a good read…lots of familiar names in there. Highly recommended,
especially for those who lived thru that era.

Yup…definitely that, Mel. About a yr ago, I e-mailed Michael’s restaurant about him…but no response.
I got a long e-mail from ReneRondeau (who worked w/ Phil at LiquorMart, then went West to Draper&Esquin).
Rene has lost contact w/ Phil as well.
I just hope he’s well.
