Peter Pratt's Lugeresque Table 3 - Burgundy

Thought I might as well open the discussion now that our table is full.

Any thematic preferences?

Burgundy. Lots of it. And Champagne. [stirthepothal.gif]

Jadot!

You know, I almost typed “And no Leo - the theme can’t be Jadot” but figured people gave you a hard time that way too often. My bad . Of course you’re more helpful than Michel who suggests that the theme for the Burgundy table should be Burgundy.

But maybe we could manage a negociant shoot-out? Pitting comparable wines from Jadot, Drouhin and Faiveley against each other? Could be fun if people have appropriate wines available.

Or we could do a 1993 check in. Or maybe CdeB wines? Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny, we haven’t done that yet.

I’ll offer up a magnum of 1982 Lanson and a dessert wine to be named later for starters.

I always figure multiple mini-themes are easier to put together than one mondo-theme, so that’s my vote. I’m always happy to drink '93s, though.

I like GC CdeB theme!!!

Not a bad idea. What would people think of a theme of one bottle of Clos de Beze and then you can bring anything else you like (if you want to bring more than one bottle which is certainly not mandatory)? Too restrictive? Not restrictive enough? Just right?

Love the idea, beze as red and white can be free for all

Everyone else - Beze good? I don’t want to force people to go out and source if they’d rather not.

I don’t own any Clos de Beze except for a pair of '04s I doubt anyone would want to drink so I’d vote for something else.

Could be an interesting check in. I’m one of the less green-sensitive people out there.

But I’d be fine with expanding it. Any Chambertin?

And despite Leo’s comment my thought was that people could bring other reds as well if they wanted to.

I have nothing against 04 beze eaither but needless to say would be very flexible to expand the theme or bring something else.

Keith - why don’t you pick another vineyard or year where you own a bottle you’d like to open and we’ll do one section of Clos de Beze and section of whatever you like. A benefit of being one of the few people to participate in the thread .

How about Clos de Beze vs Clos St Jacques or another highly regarded Clos?

We could broaden the theme to wines beginning with Clos. Clos de Beze, Clos St. Jacques, Clos de Chenes, Clos St. Denis, Clos de la Roche…

but maybe staying in Gevrey makes more sense?

I like that idea too!!!

Considering we’re dealing with steaks, I’d say Gevrey is a good idea. Something lacy and elegant from Chambolle wouldn’t stand a chance unless we all bring Bonnes Mares.

Eh, they’ve done fine in the past.

I’ll propose the following theme ideas:

  1. Dujac
  2. 1993
  3. Romanee-St.-Vivant
  4. Les St.-Georges
    My vote’d go to #1 or #4.

This is so far my fav idea and would like to stick with it. I bet we all have soem wines in our cellar that are Clos.
