Peter Pratt's Lugeresque #4 Italian

[dance-clap.gif] YES!

Bob - I always felt you belonged at our table in the first place. [basic-smile.gif]

Now that we will have some wines from Piemonte, I will bring a bottle of Moscato that I brought back from a visit to Vajra.

Yeah, me too, but the B&B table needed support when I signed-up. It all worked out in the end. Now I have to resist the temptation to bring Brunello instead of Barolo. These are the kind of dilemmas I love to have.

Hey Dale! Vica Versa for me. You want to swap out? I’ll bring a Brunello instead of one of the Barolos (Baroli?) I was going to bring.

A wine dilemma is my favorite kind of dilemma. Feel free to bring that Brunello instead of a Barolo. Personally, I feel Tuscan wines are a better match to steak.

Here’s what I know about our wines.

Jay Hack & Rebecca Schenk - Starter-Corton Charlemagne, Dessert-1963 Calem Port, Piedmont Possibles- (See next Post)

Bob Fyke: Starter- '08 or '07 Giacosa Roero Arneis, '78 Pio Cesare Riserva Barolo and a '99 Cerbaiola (Salvioni) BdM

Dominik Montano Plus 1 - '04 Barolo Scavino Bric del Fiasc, '04 Pira Vigna Rionda

Jay posted this in our original thread:

I am still working on Larry and Vinnie. I do not know if they can make it. I will know by noon today. In the interim, I downloaded my Nebbilolo collection from Cellartracker. There’s not all that much age on it, which is what I was trying to solve until that guy at the AMC auction kept spiking me. Here’s what I have. I was thinking either the 1999 and 2001 Le Vigne or the 1999 Le Vigne and the 1999 Monprivato. Anything you want to try? I’m still rummaging for something a bit older but I’m not optimistic.

1999 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco
2001 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili
1999 Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo
2001 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia Soprana
2001 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala
2000 Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo Costa Grimaldi
2000 Famiglia Anselma Barolo
2000 Fontanafredda Barolo Lazzarito Vigna la Delizia
2000 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba
1999 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne
2001 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne
2000 Giovanni Manzone Barolo Bricat
2000 Marcarini Barolo Brunate
2001 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo
1999 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato
2000 Andrea Oberto Barolo Vigneto Albarella
2000 Oriel Barolo Etereo
2003 Querciola Barolo Sori
2003 Podere Rocche dei Manzoni Barolo Rocche
2001 Paolo Scavino Barolo
2000 Vietti Barolo Brunate
2001 Vietti Barolo Brunate
2003 Attilio Ghisolfi Langhe Nebbiolo Alta Bussia
1997 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Langhe Nebbiolo Status

As much as I LOVE Piemonte and its wines I have to agree with Diane.

If no one doesn’t mind, I’d still like to “inflict” my “discoveries” from the Montecucco. However, given our increased size, I’ll bring 2x750 ml of the same bottling (I don’t have it in Mag). It’ll be 2 of the '05 Colle Massari Lombrone. I’ll also bring one 750 ml of the Sicilian sparkler I mentioned.

Anyone who wants to express an opinion as to what wines my wife and I should bring from the list above, please do so. I have tried mightily to buy stuff with some age on it but I have failed, so you get a freebie from my entire Nebbiolo collection. I also habve some Brunellos if none of the above piques your interest.

I’ll be at the Croton-Harmon Metro North Station around 10:40 on Sunday, coming from upstate this time.

Anyone want to split a cab to Pratt’s?

Here’s a link to the Metro North train schedule:

Bob, we’re driving, but picking up Golodetz and a guest, so no room -sorry. Should be some others at station though.
Jay, bring what you want, we don’t need to get too wrapped up in details.
I’m planning on the Il Sodaccio (mags rule with big tables), the 80 Monsanto (because if I like it there’s more), and bubbly (for Scott’s wife). The iffy is Betsy’s other bottle. I was planning on the '88 Percarlo (I think '88 Tuscans are drinking great, this was bottle I was feeling best about), but could substitute a 95 Ca Roma Rapet mag if big bottle worked better (and if I can dig it out).
I think we should divide table - original Nebbiolones at one end, Sangiovenistas at other. We can share wines, but throw dinner rolls at each other.

I vote for 2001 Sandrone Le Vigne and 1999 Monprivato - because I have them and have not tried yet. Another from your list that I would love to try is the 2001 Giacosa Asili. I agree with Dale about not getting wrapped up in the details…but you did ask.

Perfecto! Then we can brag about how much better our wines are then the others’. Certainly a raider band will have to be formed to strike-out and capture booty from the neighboring wine-state.

How much more Italian can you get?

Dale - I don’t think you have to be too concerned about a second mag. There will be so much wine even with the extra people at the table, I would suggest making it easy on yourself. If it’s the '88 you would like to bring, then do that…although it seems as if you are providing wine for the whole restaurant.

I was thinking the same two. The Le Vigne is ex chateau I got in trade with Francois Mauss, so I will go with that so long as I can find it and the Monprivato. I also have a Fontodi Vin Santo we got at the winery in October, so I will bring that.

I have located the 1999 Mascarello Monprivato and the 2001 Sandrone Le Vigne, so I will bring those. Anything else we need?

If Dale wants to provide wine for the entire restaurant, [thumbs-up.gif] I don’t see why you should discourage him (though, of course, I agree with your quantitative analysis).

Cellartracker says I have a Vietti Arneis and even identifies where it is. Do we have white starters? I could bring that for the sake of the theme.

with glasses and wine, a pain to carry decanters, but I’ll bring at least one carafe (easier to fit with glasses). See everyone later
