I poured the Rose at the after-party at the Detroit Jazz Festival after the headlining Jahari Massamba Unit (Madlib and Karim Riggins) performance. It was a huge hit. Madlib loved it! As did everyone else!
Excited to try these sparkling wines I keep hearing great things
Thanks for remembering me!
Love this Robert…sometimes there’s no better pairing for wine than great music!
Thanks. I appreciate the support!
sparkling ordered
I’ve bought and re-bought these Pinots from Taborly and Wizers in the Portland area. They are really good for my burg-oriented palate. Very happy to “meet” the maker!
Since there’s so much interest in the sparkling I just wanted to give you some background on these sparkling side projects I’ve been making. Before these projects I had only made still wines.
I have been stumbling my way through sparkling production in the context of my own site - learning as I go with very limited tools at hand - deconstructing the process of sparkling winemaking. There has been a conversation about legislating ‘traditional method’ labeling in Oregon. However, I think this is a mistake. For my part, I feel like I need time to learn my own site and learn what it is good for - how these wines should be made - not just blindly adopt another methodology or culture as my own. As I go through these experiments, I find some classical methodologies are proven - but others might not really make a better wine - or apply here in Oregon. I absolutely believe this is the kind of work that must be done to establish my own tradition in sparkling wines - an aggregation of lessons learned. This wine is absolutely an example of this work in progress - a journey towards finding our own agri-culture.
Sorry it’s a virtual meeting. I’m a notorious hermit.
In for the sparkling as well. Hope it isn’t sold out!
Looks like I have a couple more left…but dwindling.
Which wines can ship to NJ?
Vinoshipper doesn’t have registrations for the sparkling wines or some of the mags - but I have an alternate shipper if there’s something you want that they are unable to ship to NJ. Just drop me an email separately - shelby@perkinsharter.com
Shelby - what are some of your inspirations / favorite sparkling wines?
One more thing before I forget…there is a sparkling wine event at the Allison Inn on Saturday I’ll be pouring at! Just an FYI.
Amazing people, vineyard, wines, can’t say enough here. Definitely try these and if you ever have the chance to hang with Shelby for a beer at the Blue Moon in McMinnville, do it! Do it now.
Order in for offer #1. Looking forward to the Bracken!
Love the camaraderie amongst the Oregon winemakers!
It’s so tough…and I’m still thinking about Keller Hubacker…which I’m pretty sure is your fault. :
In 2015 I was studying for the MW and traveled around France for a month…meeting with ~3 winemakers/farmers a day - Champagne>Chablis>Burg>Bord>Gaillac>Provence>Rhone.
My biggest takeaway of this focused month of tasting and talking was that I was making big reds back in CA and I realized I wanted to make lean whites. Cote de Blancs and Chablis had my attention. Dauv v. Raveneau was top of mind…and conversations I had with Christophe Constant for several hours at J.L Vergnon about oak solera v. steel (and blends thereof) and Eric Taillet about Meunier clones really got under my skin. These were great wine-making conversations.
There are so many, many great bubbles out there and I tend to love anything Le Mesnil (see, e.g. Selosse Les Carelles ) and am still haunted by some Gerbais bottlings. And I I try to buy organic/BD so support people trying to do the good work (e.g. Doquet) because those are the people I really want to reward with my hard-earned money as a farmer - especially because I really know what that support means.
Knowing and loving your whites, that all makes perfect sense.
And now Berserkers will know what to bring you when they visit - Selosse Les Carelles!
