Any recent experience, good or bad, with current units? (Quality and availability seems to fluctuate over time.) I’m looking to put a pair of tall cabinets side-by-side indoors in a Vermont vacation home; looks matter a little and convenient shelving matters a lot. The main cellar is staying in DC, so this is “just” a few hundred bottles and I don’t have to absolutely maximize capacity.
Years ago in the old house I had a couple of the old Wine Enthusiast units with compressor units; both worked fine, but the nicer one with double-deep grid storage (which would be a good option) doesn’t seem to be made any more and the IKEA-style “put it together with camlocks and do stacked bulk storage” isn’t really what I want.
Possible serendipity… on Monday my wife and I just closed on a new home in Washington, DC that came with a pair of side by side Eurocave Vieillitheque Classic 264s dated 04/2006, #453098 and #453118. The seller attested that they were regularly serviced and in normal working condition. They also left a case of canisters of gas for the two units… and two bottles of their wine as a gift. Would they be of any interest?
I bought a pair of Allavino Reserva cabinets about 20 months ago. They are indoors (so not stressed) and hold temp very well. Total claimed capacity is 326 bottles, and I can get close to that, even with Champagne and over-sized bottles. I like that there are 14 roll out shelves in each unit so bottles are in a single layer as well as room to stack bottles at the top and bottom.
