Last night’s dinner, after a delightful wine tasting at Susan’s Fine Wines, was Penne Rigate topped with a crab, seasoned with Meyer Lemon Olive Oil, Italian herbs, and onion powder, in Alfredo Sauce and topped with chervil, just before serving. It was very tasty, especially with a 2001 Domaine Ponsot Morey St. Denis Blanc ‘Vielles Vignes’ ‘Clos des Monts Luisants’ - austere nose and flavors of pear, green apple and light melon; vibrant acidity; with a eventually long fruity finish as the wine opened with time. I’m sure this wine will be better after a few more years; we bought it at Rateau Frères in Chassagne on our trip to Burgundy in early 2004. We still have a 1982 that we’ll have with a rich meal. Music enjoyed with the meal was Beethoven’s String Quartets Opus 16 Numbers 3 & 4, played on period instruments very nicely by the Smithson Quartet.
Then for dessert, while watching Practice for the Korean F1 GP (via TiVo) on the brand new (just had the surface put on) South Korean track, we had a 1994 Ridge Dusi Ranch Zinfandel with TJ’s raisin medley and mixed nuts with added Spanish hazelnuts. The rich, earthy berry fruit; ok acidity; and medium long berry finish of the Zin was very good with the nuts and raisins
