Tonight’s supper was 8oz. of King Crab legs, warmed in a little Meyer Lemon olive oil with granulated onion and freshly ground black pepper, finished with Rao’s Vodka Sauce; and served on Penne Rigate. Wine was a perfect choice for the dish, a 2008 Alois Lageder Rosato de Lagrein - bright berry fruit, raspberries, blackberries, & strawberries; mid-palate with adequate acidity with good berry fruit,; and a medium bright berry finish. I’d initially gone to the cellar to get an Arneis, came upon the rosato and decided to have that instead. It was a very good choice - with the crab and light tomato sauce, it was a great match.
Then to finish, in the den watching TiVo’d programs, we had TJ’s chocolate bars, milk for Carollee and 72% Cocoa Dark for me; along with a 375ml bottle of a very young Port, 2003 Graham’s - bright fruit, some tannins, and a long finish; young but good with the chocolates.
