PAX part deux, the Re-birth

Just had a 2006 Kobler Syrah a few days ago

I think Joe has that contract.
Pax, where is the Terraces fruit going? It looks like you are all over Alder Springs with your projects, but I don’t see the Terraces fruit surfacing anywhere in the Syrahsphere. That was my favorite bottling of yours…

Thanks Guys…This is super fun!

Andreas - The Agharta wines are very rich, concentrated and extracted and ripe, the idea is to tame the hugeness of the wines by aging them for a little longer than is typical, yielding a wine of immense pleasure texture and exotic polish - The Pax Wines are more classically styled Syrahs…not too big, not too small, not aged too long or too short…no extremes…just classically styled Syrah…

Jody - The Terraces was torn out due to Syrah decline/disorder…we are replanting and will most definitely have it back in the line-up. We will bottle off of blocks that are now coming into age that we didn’t bottle on their own in the past…The 2010 wine is a blend of two blocks, Cahto Ridge & Spirit Rock, while the 2011, 2012 & 2013s are all from individual blocks… We are also replanting The Knob currently, as it was also torn out a couple years ago.

While all of the 2010 Castelli-Knight Ranch went into the 2010 Hermit bottling, we have bottled a 2011 & 2012 Castelli-Knight Ranch…both are exciting.

Re: Walker Vine Hill - Donelan is out - which is all I’ll say about that.

Thank you for showing excitement for the brand…it means allot.

Drink More Syrah!

~Pax

Drink more Syrah! That is a sentiment I can definitely get behind.

Pax, thanks for all the info on Alder Springs. I’m really excited to explore this site again through your wines!

+1 Looking forward to this offer, even more so now.

+2 Love that grape.

Thank you for the information. Never tried a PAX but have enjoyed the Agharta syrah I’ve been lucky to taste.

The offer is out. Looking forward to trying the wines. Wish the Griffin’s Lair was priced more in line with the Wind Gap’s though.

My list of lists is now comprised of producers I know well. Adding this back to the ‘pending deliveries’ has injected some new excitement and anticipation for spring shipping season! Can’t wait to try all of them, but the Alder Springs in particular. Assuming wishlist is fulfilled, one of these will be Pobega’d for sure.

So, I’m putting my Pax purchase into Cellar Tracker and I’ve noticed the “Community Average Value” on the Alder Springs is $58.40. The mailing list price is $60 before shipping/tax…how can this be? Almost always the price is higher than release because (I assume) some add their shipping/tax costs into the bottle price, but I’ve never seen a new wine have a lower than release price. Any ideas?

I put together a little selection, looking forward to trying them. Pax 1.0 was fun to sell and at times, to drink. I definitely like the Wind Gap wines more though.

Will be looking forward to trying these!

I wouldn’t read too much into it. The simple explanation is that somebody entered the wrong price when logging their purchase.

Does anyone have any more info on Specs(alch./Whole cluster/Grape %/etc.) for each wine?

2010 Syrah, The Hermit, North Coast 14.7%

The 2010 The Hermit is 100% Syrah sourced from Castelli-Knight Ranch, Griffins Lair & Alder Springs Vineyards. This blended Syrah was fermented 80% Whole-Cluster and aged in very old barrels for 18 months.

2010 Grenache/Mourvedre/Syrah, The Vicar, North Coast 15.9%

The 2010 ‘The Vicar’ is a Grenache-based blend and our ode to the traditional wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Fermented with stems and aged in very old barrels, this wine is all about warm rusticity and soul.

2010 Grenache, James Berry Vineyard, Paso Robles 15.9%

Planted originally to all Chardonnay, this block was replanted to Grenache in 2005 on an eastern facing calcium-carbonate and limestone-filled hillside.

2010 Syrah, Alder Springs Vineyard, Mendocino County 14.9%

Planted in the late 1990s to multiple French clones and heritage selections, this dramatic vineyard is composed of many blocks of vines at varying elevations and aspects. This wine is from The Cahto Ridge and Spirit Rock blocks. Sustainably farmed.

2010 Syrah, Griffins Lair Vineyard, Sonoma Coast 14.1%

Planted in 2000 to clones 470 & 877 and selections Hermitage Noir and Alban PB, this southwestern-facing hillside is covered by coarse sand & coarse gravel over clay. Organically farmed. It faces directly into the Petaluma Gap.

I’m going to need to turn in my AFWE card after ordering these. blush

Thanks Brian

I’m in for The Hermit and Griffin’s. I’ve always had a fondness for Castelli.

David, you’re banished, turn in your card. [rofl.gif]

I’m in for a little bit of everything; might as well try them all to decide what I really want to keep purchasing in the future.
