Last night’s supper started with a couple stuffed cucumber slices and the last slices of the smoked sturgeon with a pleasant 375ml bottle of Il Prosecco - light mousse and light fruit flavors that were enjoyable with the appetizer. The we had a nice salad of Mr. G’s mixed greens and arugula - dressed with blood orange olive oil and Champagne vinegar seasoned with onion powder, orange peel, SI Fines Herbes, granulated garlic, black pepper, & granulated garlic. The salad was very good with some slices of Pâte Genevriére and Pâte Poivre Noir and a 1999 Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pâpe ‘Les Sinardes’ - dark ruby-garnet in color, rich earthy red and black fruit in nose and flavors; initially dry tannins in mid-palate and finish, which with the pâte and salad diminished, leaving a pleasant earthy fruit mid and finish.
Dessert while watching the day’s TdF stage was a rich, crisp Pink Lady apple with Banfi Grappa di Brunello and Basdia á Coltibuono wood-aged Grappa di Sangiovese. The new bottle of Banfi was not as hot as the last, and was fruity and very good with the apple.
