Paso Robles Wine trip 2024

You might not be the only one that thought this. Maybe they got some feedback. This is now on their website.

A NOTE ON OUR TASTING FEES

In the summer of 2023, we reset our standard tasting fees to $20 (originally $40). Owner and Winemaker Matt Trevisan believes that tasting fees have gotten out of hand and wanted to provide better access to our wines and experiences.

The whites at Desperada provide welcome relief from all the high octane reds

As others said make sure to save some time to visit wineries in Tin City. Get the ice cream from Negranti. We also enjoyed the cider place as a break from all the wine. In addition to other recs for Tin City, I think Field Recordings is a fun place to visit. I wear their hat all the time.

Been mentioned a bunch but Turtle Rock and Tablas 100%.

Make reservations to dine at La Petit Canailles, its not only the best restaurant in Paso by a long shot, but also one of my favorite restaurants in the entire world. The staff is all wonderful, the Somm. Alex is amazing, the chef and owner Julien is world class and the wine list is full of gems at very reasonable prices. I cannot recommend it enough.

Have you been to Somms Kitchen? That restaurant is also brilliant and Ian, the chef/owner does some mega dinners around specific wineries/varietals.

I haven’t; been anywhere. This will be my first trip. I will look it up. Thanks.

Why wouldn’t you go back to Herman Story? What was your experience like there?

Herman Story wines are BIG. I think it’s just a preference.
It’s always a fun tasting, and I’m not even sure that he charges a tasting fee.

One time we stopped in for a tasting, and Russell (owner) asked us if we had eaten lunch yet. We hadn’t, so he invited us to the back where some staff members were making tacos. He had all of his wines open on the picnic tables and some wine club members were also there who had brought a bunch of Kosta Browne bottles, that were also open for tasting. It was a great lunch! .

Russell’s wife owns Desperada in Tin City. She makes beautiful wines. HIghly recommend a visit if in that area.

There was nothing wrong with it by any means, out of the lineups we tried it just had the least that aligned to our taste. We got 2-4 bottles at every winery we went to and some of them it was hard to decide which ones because we liked so many. At HS we doubled up the same bottle.

The location/experience is also about as barebones as it gets, which don’t get me wrong we’re not about pomp and circumstance either, but if we were back in the area the combo of wine/experience would have me looking to explore other establishments before coming back.

We were just at Linne Calodo last week. The tasting was $25/each for 6+ pours and was comped with our bottle purchase. We thought it was one of the better tastings we did. The owner’s daughter was our host and did a great job. We’d return in a heartbeat. They were also very accommodating to our dog.
