Pascal Lachaux Les Amoureuses

Does anyone have experience with this wine? Just order a bottle of 07’ vintage to check out.

I own a number of the Lachaux bottlings, was at Arnoux in '06 and tasted his '05s (both Arnoux and Lachaux). I really liked a lot of the Lachaux lots I tasted, but have to start drinking them! Time to move them forward in the cellar. At the time, Lachaux said he was trying for an ‘earlier drinking’ style, not for long-term aging.

The '04 is a stunner. Peter is right that the stated intent was an earlier drinking style, but I haven’t personally been able to figure out what that means in terms of how they differ from the Arnoux bottlings, which also tend to be pretty delicious young.

I read your notes regarding 04’ vintage on CT, you seem to be the only person that ever taste the wine. lol. Really curious about the wine after reading your notes and I so happen to see 07’ vintage today at a local wine shop.

Almost purchased a 1983 online but they couldn’t find the phantom bottle…

An Amoureuses by Pascal Lachaux 1983?
His negociant business started some 10 y ago - and Domaine Arnoux never had any Amourseuses?

I know about late released Suchots and other domiane wines, but no purchased wines …
IF - they must have been made totally by someone else!

I have few bottles each of 2005 Lachaux Clos st Denis and Clos de Beze. I am only drinking my Village and lesser 1er cur from 2005. Should I need to drink the GCs soon too?

My thought is no, but I think I’ll pull a decent Lachaux 1er from 2005 and give it a shot…

I bought a few bottles each of the Amoureuses, Clos St. Denis and Fuées on release. Have only tried the Fuées (three years ago), and for what it’s worth here’s my note: “Small pour upon opening shows fairly strong menthol/alcohol on the nose, which soon develops to cherry cough drop (which I’m not too wild about); palate quite hard and tannic, and really not giving up much. Drank this over the course of a few hours, and it developed very nicely, with some spice on the nose to accompany the red fruit (the cough drop character completely dissipates); the palate rounded out and now shows a nice Chambolle character, with pretty red fruit, but oh so very primary. Oak is present, but meshes well. Should be lovely in four or five years, but right now this was infanticide. As an aside, I can’t remember what John Gilman’s comments were on this wine and I don’t have access to his notes, but I sure don’t agree with his raw score.” Gilman gave it 84-88 (so I assume it was a barrel sample).

I would love to see a note on the 2005 Amoureuses. I had anticipated not touching any for another five or six years, but if the Lachaux wines are “early drinkers” maybe I should try one sooner rather than later. Peter, I’ll look forward to seeing your note on whatever it is you decide to open.

I should add that, based on my note above, the style does not strike me as early drinking. Then again, 2005s generally seem very wound up.

Any thoughts on drinkability of the 08s? I picked up some of the latricieres recently for a very good price but had assumed that they’d need at least 20 years and more like 30 for the double mags!

That’s probably why the retailer never found the bottle. Steal at $135 too!

the couple of Lachaux '04s I had were gag-inducingly green. Definitely tried the Beze, but haven’t had the Amoureuses. I’ve had one or two other bottlings from Lachaux, but have never been sufficiently impressed to add them to a buy list.

Am still drinking his 04 Clos St.Denis - it’s really borderline P - some days you see it, some days you (I) don’t. Apart from a lone Griotte, all my 03s are now consumed…

Going to organise an arnoux/lachaux dinner in London to investigate the earlier drinking style!

Dan, please be sure to post your thoughts/results.

Will certainly do so. Looks like we’ve got a vertical of the suchots back to the 86 already [cheers.gif]

Whats the story between old Lachaux and Arnoux? Are the earlier drinking style a recent change?

Arnoux wines certainly can age. I had some 70s a couple of months back that tasted gorgeous.
