Got it. Been there (Part Dieu). But you’re still not saying you would suggest CDG - Part Dieu - Dijon over CDG - Gare Lyon - Dijon, are you?
Alan, the issue is that getting from CDG to Gare de Lyon is a PITA sometimes. I’d rather just do the straight shot to Part Dieu, then put put it to Dijon, especially if I have tons of bags, and especially if I just landed and am jet-lagged.
the rental car agency is inside the train station at Dijon.
Thanks Yaacov, you don’t happen to know what agency rents out of the station in Dijon do you? Since we’ll be getting into Dijon around noon most likely, we were thinking about having lunch and walking around Dijon and then driving down the Cote to Beaune. Also, are automatics available at most rental agencies? I haven’t driven a stick in 20 years and am not exactly comfortable doing it in a foreign country.
several agencies.call the USA europecar number to discuss your options.
If you are not used to Europe take the TGV to Dijon then local train to Beaune and rent a car from there.
It is compulsory to have a reservation on a TGV so it must be booked in advance.
There are only two two trains a day from CDG to Beaune and two from CDG to Dion, both at very inconvenient times.
It is much simpler to travel TGV from CDG to Lyon (several times a day) then take a short local train to Beaune, however it is not the cheapest or quickest route.
There is no easy way from CDG to Paris.

.
I travel loads and it is one of the most complicated/expensive ways form a major airport to a capital city (and I live here and it sums up French life).
Autos are practically impossible to rent, make sure you have a good guarantee. I deal with many people who booked an auto but were given a stick shift on arrival.
Tracy, thanks. My wife and I will already have the car (from Hertz at CDG), and are picking up another couple in Dijon. They are actually European (Turkish and German) and extremely well traveled, so know the drill. I’m leaving it up to them, but if it were me I’d take a cab into Paris Gare Lyon, then TGV to Dijon over going so far out of the way down to Lyon and back.
I always expect a manual car in Europe, even UK
