Got my 3 pack of the Cab Sauv.
I did the exact same as well. Both being released at the same time definitely limited my purchases from them
From the websites, it looks like the Palisades Canyon offering is all sold out. However, it appears that both Cab and SB is still available for Mowe. I got in on some Palisades Canyon Cab but was thinking about maybe getting some Mowe but I have to consider my budget.
You wont regret buying Mowe!
Sold out, Congrats to them on the new project.
If anyone is open to splitting an allocation, let me know. Missed this due to travels.
I know that this is primarily a post on Palisades Canyon but is there anyone here that has tried out the Mowe Cab and SB? If so, what are your thoughts?
I wish I had the budget for both but had to choose and went with PC. Brutal when release is the same day.
Steve just called to work out shipping arrangement for my order (I’m in a state that they don’t ship to). Was able to chat with him for about 10 mins on all things wine.
Awesome to talk with him and hoping we get a chance to visit when we’re out in Napa in 2025!
Yesterday, my husband and I visited Steve and Felicia at their beautiful estate property for a tour and tasting. This was perhaps our favorite experience thus far in the Napa Valley. They are so knowledgeable and passionate, as well as being warm and inviting top notch hosts.
We started with a tour of the Petite Sirah old vine vineyards with Steve. We were fascinated to learn all about the head trained vines, rootstock and unique vineyard management. We toured the barn, which was once a bonded winery with quite a storied past!
We then toured the newly grafted Chenin Blanc vineyards with Felicia, as well as the recently planted St George rootstock slated to be Cabernet Sauvignon, once the roots take hold and are ready for grafting the bud.
The day ended with a tasting of the 2021 Chenin Blanc, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2021 Petite Sirah. I have to say, all the wines were great! I was happy to taste the 2021 Chenin, as they sold out in less than 2 minutes, so I missed out on that wine, unfortunately. Here are my recollections of the wines:
The Chenin is extraordinary! All of the wines have a purity of fruit, which beautifully expresses each grape variety in the glass. The Chenin had both high acidity and richness, which complemented well with the complexity of flavors and aromas.
The Cabernet was sublime! Again, the purity of fruit was evident, with a deep ruby color, high acidity, fine tannins, complexity of flavors and aromas, with a long finish. It is a wine that you could open now and decant or age.
The Petite Sirah was spectacular! This is not the highly extracted, completely opaque Petite Sirah wines I have tasted in the past. This is still an intense purple color, but has some transparency. It is complex, yet light on its feet. The wine is blue fruit with medium+ acidity, integrated tannins and a medium to long finish, which could also age or be enjoyed now.
All and all, a wonderful experience, so if you get a chance, I highly recommended both the experience and the wines, as you will not be disappointed! And as a student of wine, I learned more in 2 hours than I could hope to learn in class, from both Steve and Felicia, as well as the land itself! Thank you so much for your hospitality! We hope to meet again!
Oh, one thing I forgot to add to my post…a few have asked in this forum why the Cabernet has only the “Napa Valley” without the Calistoga designation on the label, while the Chenin and Petite Sirah have “Calistoga, Napa Valley”. Confirmed it is all estate fruit, however, the labels for the Cabernet were the first to be printed and the Calistoga was inadvertently left off.
seems like it’s worth the cost to reprint?
Apparently not. The original label was accurate and the wine sold out. What would the upside have been?
Label does not change the contents. Seems much ado about nothing here!
accuracy? for what it’s worth I purchased anyway, but when spending $150 a bottle I think the details matter.
…but you have the details, right? it’s not like they are hiding or obfuscating information.
okay
I am not sure that is a necessary expense. These are amazing wines made by amazing people…this ain’t no Constellation… IYKYK!
Anyway, it is an accurate label, as the wine is clearly from the Napa Valley AVA, which is overarching the Calistoga AVA, like concentric circles. I just forgot to include this, as I saw a few posts asking this question on this and Mowe posts. And I was wondering myself, even though I purchased prior to the explanation, but I am a student of the truth, so I thought those inquiring minds might want to know!
Wines will be shipped and delivered tomorrow!
