What’s this really all about? I found a topic, from earlier this month, saying Pali was offering their '08s for $19, but this article suggests it’s all vintages.
Anyone have the inside info? Is this through the winery only? Their site requires a registration to purchase and looks like you have to be on their mailing list to be registered. Doesn’t read like a public event yet.
The article is a bit misleading. We are still producing high end, vineyard designated wines in the $50 per bottle range. However, starting with the 2007 vintage, we introduced a new line of Pinots - the Cuvee Series - that is priced at $19 per bottle. These wines are AVA-specific and in the 2008 vintage, they outnumbered our vineyard designate wines about 5 to 1 (5000+ cases of the Cuvee vs. 1000 cases of the vineyard designates). The 2008 Cuvee wines are currently being sold to our mailing list which, as the article implies, is still open to new customers. The 2008 vineyard designates will not be released until 2010.
“A bit misleading” doesn’t even begin to describe it. I’d be pretty pissed if I were you. With the way it was written I’ve had to read it again, twice, to see what they did. The editing was completely inane. I wasn’t really sure how selling off excess was related to lowering cost structure… for me it only lowers margins. Now I get it.
Thanks for the explanation. If you’d like me to remove this topic, I’d be happy to contact Todd… or whatever it takes. Then again, this may help sell lots of Cuvee.
