Palena in DC to close

Following on the heels of Dino’s closing comes the sad news of another venerable Cleveland Park restaurant shutting its doors. I’ve enjoyed many great meals and bottles at this place over the years, as I’m sure many Berserkers have, too. Both their gnocchi and their burger were the best in the city, bar none.

And unlike Dino, the closing here was rather abrupt, so no opportunities to savor a final meal.

Just saw this… is really too bad.

I was pretty shocked to see this. So many great memories there over the years…

Wow. I just ate there last week for the first time. Pretty damn good, but it was fairly empty on a Friday night, cherry blossom weekend.
The mussels joint accross the street is AMAZING. I’ll have to make due there…

Robert - I was there on Friday night too!

Damn Tooch!
We were seated all the way in the back, 6 of us.
I guess we were too self absorbed in too much wine and good company for me to take notice! Would’ve been a great serendipitous way to finally meet!
We’ve got to make it happen sometime soon…
SANTE!

hmm…we were all the way in the back of the cafe adjacent to the kitchen. probably sitting right next to you.

We were restaurant side, not cafe…

I guess if the restaurant isn’t in Logan/Shaw — just close up.
Too bad about Palena - great spot.

What a shame!

What is the name of the mussels place?

St Arnolds.
The house special style may be the best I’ve ever had. A liter of hefeweisse, life is good.

A big loss for the DC restaurant scene.

Where is Tim O’Rourke going to eat now?

Dino has closed but Dean will reopen soon with Dean’s Grotto on 9th street.

A total bummer.
