2004 DuMOL Pinot Noir Ryan - USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley (7/30/2009)
Dark garnet unto purple. Dark dark fruit, a little pinot funk, spice and cola on the nose. Big red fruit, black cherry, and a slightly tart/bitter (in a good way) finish. Very little of the angularity that I like in pinot (at least the burgundy type of pinot). Overall a nice California pinot, but not really my bag (anymore).

So…how much of this palate shift might be due to your 30+ consecutive days of 100 degree days down there?
I also have pretty much shifted from the blueberry syrup model that many newer CA PN producers (and OZ Shirazers) made their mark on…
Not long ago, we finished off our stash of 02 Amon-Ra’s with a “good riddance.” Not sure I have more than 1 or 2 more Shiraz’s in the cellar.
Welcome to the dark side Lord Vader. I’ve already sold all that plonk (not speaking of DuMol in particular, though). All I’ve got left are burgs that need years to drink at peak…will have to drink some other stuff in the meantime.

To all,
Not to jump on the band wagon … but, move the hell over so I can get on! I just had a few more of my “jeez I really need to try some more Cali PNs to see what all the fuss is about” that were recommended to me by folks with the “if you like Burgs you’ll love … .” This time is was some Arcadians and Ken Wright and try as I may I can’t get the Kinks lyrics to go away … “tastes just like cherry cola, C-O-L-A, cola …” I will keep trying particularly because I have some of both left. Well made wines to be sure but, just not good for me, not good.
