Oysters at the Railyard

Carollee saw an ad in today’s Pasatiempo that said fresh oysters were at Louis Moskow’s Railyard. Therefore, we made a 1pm reservation. This will make a good preparation for wine tasting at Susan’s later this afternoon. We arrived, were seated, and ordered our San Pellegrino. We decided on a 2007 Montesierra Rosé of Garnacha and Tempranillo from the Somontano region of Spain. It was fruity and crisp and went well with our first order of six each Pacific oysters with a cocktail sauce and a shallot mignonette. We also ordered some fresh horseradish. The rosé was fruity & dry enough and had adequate acidity to work well with the oysters in all combinations of accompaniments (except the cocktail sauce, which we didn’t even try). Then after we had ordered another half-dozen each. Louis came out and said they had just gotten a shipment of oysters from a different bay in Washington, so we gleefully said we’d try those. The first batch was more like Puget Sound oysters, the second was smaller oysters, with more flavor and good seawater sense. We each got eight of those. Then I ordered eight more oysters and Carollee ordered a Carpaccio on greens. Louis than came out and said he had some foie gras, either seared or as a terrine. Carollee decided on the terrine. I had almost finished my oysters when Carollee’s terrine appeared. It was three thick slices of very good pure foie gras terrine on slices of brioche with stripes of a spicy berry jam. With her foie gras, Carollee had a couple glasses of a pleasant Bonny Doon Muscat Vin Glaciére, while I finished the rosé.

Then when we thought we were finished, Louis offered us a special pear, cheese, and pastry tart. When the tart was served, we also got a cognac-coconut ice cream that they had just made. The desserts were enjoyed with a couple very intense double espressos (a single espresso cup about 2/3 full with a double). Then we headed for home to recover for the tasting at Susan’s.

2nd set sound like Olympias, small and delightful. also having oysters tonight if i don’t go back to work…

Louis said they were from ‘Some’ Bay, by the time I got home I didn’t remember. Olympias are noticibly smaller than these were.

Love me some oysters… [welldone.gif]
