Oysters at the Railyard

Today for lunch we went to the Railyard. Louis called us last week and said that they had more Sister’s Point oysters coming in. We replied that we’d be in on Thursday of the next week.

Today is Thursday and we went to the Railyard for oysters et al. When we arrived Louis came out and said he had a special wine for us. It was a 1998 Domaine Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos ‘Les Chavigne’- very cold initially; with nose & flavors of minerally white fruits; reasonable acidity (after it warmed a bit). with a medium long minerally fruit finish. After it warmed some (after a long time) it developed a bit of harshness with the oysters; while very cold it was nice with the oysters. We started with eight oysters each, with lemon, horseradish, and a shallot mignonette. We finished the bottle of Mâcon with our second batch of eight oysters each. We then decided to have some more oysters with a bottle of 2008 Licia Albariño and a side of frites. Railyard frites are quite good especially with the cocktail sauce for the oysters, that we don’t have with the oysters. Unfortunately, they only had seven oysters left after discarding the dead ones. So we made do with the reduced number. The frites and oysters were a great combination, especially with the Albariño. When we had finished those, we ended with a couple very short pull, intense espressos. While we were having lunch it snowed again some and was still snowing slightly as we went out to our car.

This was another delightful Santa Fe afternoon.
