I wish I could enjoy a Costco steak as much as Flannery or LaFrieda or other expensive steaks. I would save a lot of money.

Methinks Michelin is not the same as it used to be.

The further you get away from France and French cuisine the guide becomes less and less useful.

I will say this about Berns.

1. We always get the rack of lamb and it’s always great. The food is top notch but it is “basic” . That’s what old school steakhouses are though.

2. Their service is absolutely the best. Michelin worthy for sure.

3. I’ve never not enjoyed myself there and should be back in August which I’m already looking forward too.

I had the rack of lamb the last time I was there and it was better than the steaks.

I’ve had steak there three times and each time it wasn’t good and wasn’t prepared correctly. Medium rare - was charred on the outside and literally raw in the middle.

I literally don’t go to almost any steakhouse for this reason. I really don’t understand how these restaurants get away with this.

I make a way better reverse seared, grass fed, bone in ribeye at home. I do make exceptions for some great wagyu (I love bourbon steak) and a few of the NYC staples. Otherwise I’d much rather go to a french bistro or some 1 Michelin star type places that have great food and reasonable corkage.
