Gregutt was mentioned in Erin Nuccio’s latest newsletter, and looks to be a Berserker in spirit! I enjoyed reading through his Substack some just now.
Been on the road and haven’t read through the whole report, but I’m pretty stoked about our reviews and feel like reading Eric’s notes, I recognize the wines. Sort of like how at a parent teacher conference, you can tell when a teacher really knows your kid, even brings up things you didn’t necessarily know but still tracks. Definitely miss Josh Raynolds, very much felt that way about his notes. Incidentally same with Alan Meadows at Burghound though he’s no longer reviewing Oregon stuff. But Eric seems to have a good pulse on what’s happening in Oregon and that’s a great thing.
Interesting. Alan Meadows didn’t seem to like whole cluster much in Oregon wines so our preferences seemed to diverge pretty significantly.
I really enjoyed speaking with him though. The sheer number of Burgundy wines he’s tasted is absolutely remarkable.
Irrespective of his opinion on the wines, did you think he described them in a way you recognized them?
Not particularly
