We were invited to a dinner, main course poached salmon, which promised to be rather light in flavor. I thought the best wine for it might be a Pinot Noir with a bit of age. I have Burgs but don’t know which ones to “trust” so I rummaged around and found the 1995 Truchard Pinot Noir and the 2001 Lane Tanner.
Both went well with the fish, although we had nearly finished the Truchard by the time it was served. The group was very impressed with this wine. I had worried it might be over the hill at age 15 but the good news is that it had a clear fruitiness, maybe a little attenuated from the lushness of youth, but a thoroughly good tasting wine. One could still make out black cherries on the bouquet. If only I were better at TN writing – I don’t think the Truchard is ever really a very complicated wine, either young or old.
The Lane Tanner was younger but lighter. I haven’t drunk that one young so I can’t compare, but there was less fruit. Still it was quite enjoyable especially as a complement to the fish.
