OK - Now this is serious

Great and noble!

I for one would be thrilled to eat a sandwich you made even if you wouldn’t serve it to your family!

Jay, just curious, where will they sit down at a table? Park bench perhaps?

Sorry to complicate things but there may be vegetarians among them.

Sandwiches for them as you wouldn’t serve vegetarian food to your family anyway?

Chris Lilly’s Mac and Cheese. It’s been a slam dunk at every single party I served it at, from kids to high school graduation to a hipster NYE party. I put crumbled bacon on at the end, but you may consider skipping if you’re concerned about vegetarian/Muslims.

Posting the recipe, as I know Chris would be cool with anything helping kids… but would be great if you picked up a copy of his “Fire and Smoke” cookbook if you use. Can’t tell you enough how much this recipe has crushed every party I’ve served it at, and it’s pretty reasonable if you get the cheese at reasonable prices. You don’t need to smoke it; just brown on an over top shelf or salamander.

GO FUCK YOURSELF!!! What did you do to make the world a better place today? I took a day off from my chemo treatments at age 70 to prepare a grilled chicken, rice and black bean salad to give to everyone who gets off the bus, and added a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie and an orange for taste and health. I have to go now because I have to deliver the food at 7 am tomorrow morning. I will be at the Port Authority building in a red SUV loaded with food at about 6:45 am. If you want, you can come meet me and kiss my ass.

I should also ask you how many people were killed with the guns you sold at your fire arms store, but that would be unfair debate.

I agree totally with Jay’s post. You should really take a second look at the nasty post you wrote.
I am actually in awe of Jay; he is going through absolute hell, and his first reaction to the news is actually to go and do something, not sit around making stupid comments. The fact that he wants to make sure it’s good rather than fuel is not something I would have thought of, but is in itself is amazing.

I hope you never have deal with the kind of horrors these immigrants are facing. I hope you continue to thrive in a home with enough food on the table, bottles of wine, a job, a family and all the other things you take for granted. I hope you can continue to voice your political opinions without censure, and most of all I wish you good health.

I just read this thread and I was both shocked and appalled at the truly vile comment from Mr. Baryla. I normally roll my eyes when people on this board claim to have been “attacked” just because someone disagreed with them or criticized them. But that was a genuine attack, mean spirited and gratuitous. If you are any kind of decent human being, you will apologize to Jay and really think about why you felt that sort of comment was necessary.

Jay -

I’m truly sorry for posting that. There are no excuses I was way over the line and I am sorry. Hope you all the best and thank you for all you do.

AND I may have to relent on the sandwiches issue because when we delivered the food today, they told us that may have an emergency need tomorrow morning for food for buses that Texas dispatched unexpectedly today. I am waiting for a call, and if they need us, we will make 100 wraps with shredded Costco rotisserie chicken, bacon, roasted peppers (I just roasted 50+ red and green peppers in the back yard), caramelized red onions and who knows what as a black bean dressing. Wrap them up in service foil and easy to hand out.

What happens when the busses arrive? Are the folks taken to a place to stay? Are there tables etc for them to eat at? Curious what is being done in NYC.

We’re loading the busses back up with Rikers prisoners and shipping them back to Texas. I believe that might stop the armada

I want to second whoever called you a mensch. I may not share your taste in wine, but I can only aspire to your humanity. Still, I think sandwiches, if they are good sandwiches are OK. I do serve them to my wife and myself on occasion.

Today we did it again. 56 chicken, seared salami rice and veggies salads and 40 sandwiches and lots of fresh fruit. We were swamped with over 130 people and ran out of food. Other groups had snacks and drinks and clothing and info. Fire Department EMTs providing medical assistance. NYC providing immigration info. Photos:

I still haven’t figure out how to repost the message I am replying to, but everyone who arrives has three choices. If they have someone local so stay with, we contact the local person and wait until they arrive. If the person has someplace to stay that is farther away - let’s say Rochester - there is a fund to buy them a bus ticket to the other location. Lacking choices 1 and 2, there are shelters available for the rest of the people and they are given transportation to the shelter. The organization is trying to obtain its own shelter, but for now people are distributed among available locations. Families to family shelters, etc. There were a lot of young children today. I would say 6-8 families of 3 of 4 people with a child under age 3.

Everyone goes through a line and is processed by a volunteer who speaks Spanish. I do not, so I have no idea what that involves. Then there is a large cordoned off area at the Port Authority bus terminal where they can get food, snacks and drinks, clean clothes and shoes, and sit down and eat. Bathroom escort are available. Someone (do not know whether it is a person or a company) has provided hundreds of pairs of new sneakers and shoes and sandals in all different sizes. There was a pair of new green flip flops with big green flowers on the toe that I wanted to photograph, but it was late and I was tired, They ran out of men’s underwear today. I think that Governor Abbott is disappointed that New York has not cried uncle, so he is increasing the deliveries and not telling us until less than 24 hours before they arrive, which makes food prep and calling in volunteers even harder.

Send people released from Rikers to Texas is a good plan.
