Oh, I’ll add: I was back at work Yesterday. My days are comprised of laying on the couch with my ankle raised as much as I can, often with ice. I’ve got a nice little lap desk and everything I need in a small circle, and a knee scooter to get around. The sitting is driving me nutz.
Best wishes to both of you for your recovery!
I have a smilar set up. Working from bed (LOL). It’s definitely frustrating. I’m going to try to find a comfortable way to be on the couch later this week. We had friends come over on Monday and I spent two hours on the couch (lying down) and then got up awkwardlly. I didn’t hurt myself or set anything back, but it was a clear reminder to follow docotrs orders strictly.
Looking good! I’m a ways away, but I also have a lot of time to think about what that first drink will be. Obviously it depends on where it happens, but I’m picturing an icy cold martini and due to my low tolerance level after such a long hiatus, the martini will be followed by a nap.
No idea if this is your situation, but the excess antibiotics given after some surgeries can really mess with your gut, resulting in a C. diff infection. That’s serious stuff that needs quick attention and treatment. If you aren’t back to relative normal soon, see your doctor.
I enjoyed doing this with you all.
I’m back to normal(ish). Thanks for the concern. This is all TMI but what the heck…My issue was constipation (if that wasn’t clear). It’s very common after surgery. Pain meds slow the movement of food through the system. Anathesia relaxes the muscles including the intestinal contractions that help you go to the bathroom. Lack of appetite and lack of physical activity all contribute too. Add to all of this the fact that my incision is right where one would sit while on the toilet. I was told to expect all of this during the surgical consult when I asked what the first 1-2 weeks looked like post surgery.
Yup. Opioids do that, and it was the main reason I declined hydrocodone after my hand surgery.
Sorry to hear that, good to hear you’re off those nasty meds. I took 2 Percocet the night of bicep tendon repair and not only was constipation a big factor, it was crack cocaine. I didn’t sleep for 2 nights, and the nerve block lasted almost 4 days so it turned out unnecessary. I declined Vicodin and didn’t realize Percocet was even worse.
Still going strong…I’ve done DJ before and extended it until the Friday of President’s Day weekend. So, without thinking too hard about it, I’m guessing that this is the longest I’ve gone without having alcohol in at least 20 years.
Had my first wine of the year yesterday (stuck to G&T when I visited my team in Boston early Feb). It tasted sooooo good. ![]()
here too Mike! Last night’s dinner with snow crab legs and drawn butter for v-day was maybe the most temptation I’ve had yet, but honestly it wasn’t that hard to stick with it, pretty happy about that. My dry spell breaks on the 26th ![]()
Welcome back!
Checking in, I’m down to my final week and doing great! It’s been pretty easy to stick with it, even during some early evenings when I feel the temptation the most. I can’t effectively weigh myself, since I’ve still got a big ol’ cast on my leg, but feeling that I’ve likely lost something like 15lbs between no alcohol, tons of swimming prior to surgery, and the effects of surgery itself.
Hope everyone one else is doing well, Mike - I hope your recovery is going well!
Thanks Eric. Things going smoothly here. I’m going to PT and doing well. My next milestone is 3/3 when (assuming it’s going well) I will get the brace off and be okayed for partial weight bearing. At this point it’s mostly frustrating on multiple levels, especially not being able to do the things I like to do. I had tix last night for Jason Isbell at Radio City. Instead, my wife and daughter went to a fun dinner and the concert (at least I got the concert tee) while I stayed home and binged The Pitt. All in all, I’m fine.
Still dry and eating a tasty but boring and repetitive diet. I’m shocked at how little desire I have to drink. I think a lot of it is because I’m not doing anything. Not going out at all other than a bit of work and PT. Would be weird AF to bring a to go cup martini to PT. Would love to step on my scale at home. I’d be fascinated to see if I’ve lost more since surgery. I have to think I’ve lost another 5+ pounds.
dude, I feel ya on the “not doing anything” and " not being able to do the things I like to do", my desire to simply go swim laps far outweighs my desire to drink wine right now ![]()
100%. I’m targeting a long standing dinner reservation on 3/12 as my debutante ball. It feels far off.
Big changes open the door to big changes. The choice is whether to walk through it.
I know that sounds like Victor
but I do believe that.
I’ve been recuperating at my parents place since 2/3 and will probably be here for another week+. I should have listed my place on AirBNB. That’s more like Victor.
