My latest update on the KC Midtown inability to move 2020 BDX big guns… The first growths here have been on display since probably October of last year with no price change. It’s quite the selection, but nothing is close to W-S lows as far as I can tell.
Appreciate you monitoring 471. Too far for me for a quick drive, but close enough to grab some deals. Inventory is superior to other Costcos I’ve been to in the region.
$199.99 at several clubs in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Speaking of KC area Costcos, my wife’s cousin (who lives in our in-law quarters) was at the North KC warehouse and called me. Conversation goes something along these lines. “You like Riesling and stuff from Alsace. They have something by Trimbach. Do you want me to get you a bottle.?” Me, “What color is the label?” Him, “Gold.” Me, “Yes, please, get two.” They had the Trimbach CFE 2015 for around $79. Not saying this was a steal, but a decent price. Also had him get two bottles of the Kirkland 2020 Barolo and we are having one of those tonight with Tri-tip, stuffed zucchini and a salad fresh from our garden of lettuce and tomatoes.
PS. The new Trimbach label no longer uses the word “Cuvée” before “Frédéric Émile” So, the really important question is, will we have to drop using the acronym “CFE” and just use “FE” when referring to this wine in the future? Expiring minds want to know. Prefer the prior Trimbach label along with the neck band. Don’t ask me why, I just do.
I think I saw that at the Midtown location also but didn’t buy at that price (not that it’s a terrible price). Crazy how they never mark anything down and so many other locations get the unreal closeout pricing.
Not Costco related, but I found a 2011 CFE at Gomer’s of Kansas accidentally priced like the entry level Riesling (~$19.99).

Yah, when are we going to get something like 2019 Ch. du Tertre for $19.97?
Same in PNW, never the death * on any wines.
Always interesting to see the various Costco regions differ. This past 2 months in SoCal has quite a lot of stuff on clearance especially on Liquor, wine we do see clearance regularly. Champagne maybe once a year, just recently i picked up a case of Mumm Rose for $19.97 per bottle.
which social costco?
The OC Costcos have been a wine wasteland since the 2019 BDX wave ended. They could hardly have a less interesting selection if they tried.
Van Nuys yesterday was 100% worthless on the wine front
Have to go down to Carlsbad or maybe San Diego.
My Costco in Murrieta has been trash too.
Walking around the wine section at Tustin Hangars and Fountain Valley this year has felt like reading the wine list at a middle tier chain steakhouse.
“Well, they have Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc, Moet Brut Imperial, Norton Malbec, a bunch of zinfandels with pun names, Whispering Angel rose, Josh pinot noir . . .”
@Jeff_M1 , seeing photos of the wine selection at Carlsbad has made me deeply unsatisfied with my life. Thanks for picking that scab again.
I need an excuse to go down to Carlsbad again.
I got the Mumm Rose on clearance at Carlsbad, 7/12.
There are others in OC but probably not on the higher end of the spectrum, just your every day items. The notables that i stocked up on recently are:
Cline Ancient Vines 1822840 $7.97
Gramercy Cellas Syrah 1827829 $9.97
I go to the San Juan Capistrano Costco. It’s been a desert…
And has been since the 19 Bordeaux disappeared.
So, what y’all are saying is the OC Costcos have finally reached Indianapolis-level greatness.
