Odd Parker review: 2007 Two Hands Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie's Patch

Did anyone see the Parker review of the 2007 Two Hands Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie’s Patch? I found something he wrote rather odd:

“While the flawless 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie’s Patch exhibits a dark ruby/purple color and lots of new oak and spice, it is not yet singing. It is put together well, raw-boned, big, and extracted, but I have given it the benefit of the doubt and scored it highly although I am not sure it will do as well with other tasters.”

A score of 91 points and with that kind of qualification sees to me like a bit of a mismatch. I’m not being critical, but 91 is a pretty high score and I was very surprised to read that.

I found it odd too, IMO his comments didn’t seem typical for a tasting note from him . I have not tried the '07 Charlie’s, no opinion here on it but if he was going to give the benefit of the doubt to a wine, there are many others I would have thought he might have picked, maybe Araujo [scratch.gif]

Sounds like jay Miller would have scored this a 98…oak, extracted…

Doesn’t “flawless” mean: without flaw, perfect? newhere

In that context, “flawless” is ambiguous, but since he gave it a 91, not 100, I’m assuming he just meant it didn’t have any actual flaws. A wine could have no actual flaws and still be mediocre.

I guess it’s six of one, a half dozen of another, but I personally wouldn’t write “flawless” unless I meant something was perfect or near perfect.

Semantics and subjective (I understand what you meant), but a 91 point wine is a pretty darn good wine in my book. Certainly far above mediocre.

I’m willing to bet (and have by purchasing from Posner at the firesale prices) the wine is pretty darn good based on its pedigree - source, vintage, and most important - winemaker. We’ll see.

Nearly flawless once it sheds its baby fat.

The 91 can only help us true drinkers…
