NYC Pizza

Planning a trip to NYC in Nov. Looking for Pizza recs in NYC.

I haven’t been there in years, but when I was living at the Hunter dorms, there was Mike’s Pizza nearby on 2nd and 23rd, which I thought was good then, but please any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, which Ray’s Pizza do you prefer?

Thank you in advance. grouphug

Veronica, a good starting place is this; http://www.slice.seriouseats.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; A number of old standbys DiFara’s, Grimaldi’s, Patsy’s, Motorino and on, and on…

I’m a Luzzo’s fan - 1st ave. between 12th and 13th, West side of the avenue.

Veronica,

Study up on this:

P.S. Ray’s is only good for emergency bathroom breaks or a slice at 3:30 am when you’re drunk and just need something to sop up the alcohol with.

Hope to meet you here in November.

What are peoples’ opinions on Lombardi’s?

Paging Mr. Pobega…

Thanks guys! That picture of Motorino’s pie looks amazing… flirtysmile

Jorge! Looking forward to meeting you, too!

Cheers.

Good enough if you’re in the area, but not worth a special trip.

And definitely listen to Jorge re: Ray’s.

Avoid Grimaldis. Unless you want to overpay for a crappy soggy pie after a 1 hour wait in the cool off the river wind.

Lombardis if your in the neighborhood. DiFaras is the holy grail. (although just a touch salty for my taste). Some local places mentioned here recently could warrant a visit. Do a SEARCH for pizza and see what comes up.

And if you fins yourself on Staten Island give me a shout. I can make you a Pobega special.

Anybody tried that place on 8th in the 30’s that deMello talked about?

Co.? If it’s that one, it’s gotten mixed reviews. The owner is the same behind Sullivan St. Bakery.

Pizza Suprema 31st & 8th

The NY Times did a review of NYC Pizza places recently, that might be something to look into for a list of possibilities. But I agree with Pobega, DiFara’s is fantastic but a hassle to get to and to order (I hate the mob scene at the counter). Hoping to meet you when you’re in town!
Cheers! [cheers.gif]

I have a car and love the porcini slice at DiFara’s. Haven’t had it in three years, so I’m due.

Brad

I’m in.

Motorino is awesome and very BYO friendly.

I’m headed into my slow season. Just set the date.

If you want to make it a ‘mini-crawl’, you can count me in.

Booked my ticket this weekend, and will be in NYC for almost a week. Plan on going to Ess-A-Bagel every single day I am there. Looking forward to meeting the NY peeps!! [dance-clap.gif]

Veronica,

Try to squeeze in H & H at least once in that week. neener

Seriously though, what’s your plan? Just winging it or do you have a scheduled itinerary? What part of town are you staying in?
