I trust your judgement Jay. But let’s just say I’d rather see you bring rocket fuel than some esoteric Brett-fest.
Seriously now. Since corkbuzz is out after this month, you need a new location. Lots of choices and it is 100% up to you. Here are my midtown relationships if you want me to talk to someone.
Choice One: If you want red meat as the centerpiece, I know the manager at Bobby Van’s [the one on 54th between Lex and Third] and we should be able to get a nice space separate from the other diners that allows us to disucss the wines. Cost all in including corkage has been $150 plus or minus including corkage, tax and tip. We set up a menu in advance. What I have done is two nor three apps followed by lamb lollipops followed by Porterhouse for everyone, with a couple of sides, and dessert.
Choice Two: There’s always midtown Peking Duck House on 53rd street. It’s less expensive but the menu is limited to Chinese Food. The guy there knew me well but I have ony been there once in the ast 18 months and there may have been turnover.
Choice Three: Txikito, a basque restaurant on the west side. We used to have dinners there frequently. I did not organize any of those so I do not know the people, but they were nice and accomodating. I can explaore that with people who organized those event.
Choice Four: Barbettas. Northern Italian. 46th within 8th and 9th. This is the place that Leo introduced to the wineaux community in NY. HIs father did the stonework on their garden. The main room is fin de siecle luxury but not suitable for our type of event, but if we can get a private space upstairs or a table in the garden during warm weather, that would work.
Rest assured. The dinners will continue.
Until morale improves?
Have I got a great pairing from my cellar. I will use CT current auction values for the sake of consistency (Oh crap, it means that he’s not bringing 375s of Petrus). One of them is fluctuating around one of your value points depending on which day I check, so I may have to cheat a few bucks on one side or the other, but it will be a Verrrrry Interesting comparison.
Take it to the politics forum.
Huh?
I thought your comment about morale had to do with Peter’s political leanings.
Hi Peter, can you please add me to the wait-list. Thank you
I’d never turn down a steak and wine dinner.
It’s Peter’s choice, but hopefully he will choose wisely. If not, I may have to arrange another big red wine with big red meat dinner. We have already done SQN, MacDonald and the wines of Russel Bevan. Next? TRB Cabs? TRB non-Cabs?
Done
Definitely thinking TRB in the future…
That private room at Bobby Van’s would work well. I went to the SQN dinner and thought it was a pretty good dynamic (helped that the vino was killer, of course).
The long table at Corkbuzz was perhaps better IMO because you had 4-5 people you could easily discuss the wine with vs only the people right next to you at the bigger square table at Bobby Van’s. Maybe that can be fixed at Bobby Van’s.

There is a second, saller room at Bobby Vans that would be better, but I chose not to got that route for SQN because I was concerned that we would have too big of a group. The smaller room will max out at 20 but it works better for 16 or less. You can look at it here:
it is the room in whch there is a table that is 4 on each side.
I have a few ideas.
Never fear. The fun will continue.
Early Roll call starting just in case anyone is dropping for Monday… long waitlist, so don’t want anyone to miss out…
Still in

i’ll be there
Please take me off the waitlist; I won’t be able to make it
Me, me, me. What did I say that I was going to bring? I forget.
