I’m coming from queens (jackson heights) and am taking the E->LIRR… but the way back sucks on the train.
If people are uber-pooling back and can spare room come back via the LIE->grand central or LIE->tunnels/bridges into the city (see below), I can contribute to the ubee if you can exit in queens for a quick drop off before continuing the ride to civilization. I would offer to tuck and roll from a moving uber, but I suppose that depends on how much I’ve drank…
This was an A+ evening! Thanks to Joe and Julie for being excellent hosts and Dan, John E (+fam), Dan and Claudia, and Gavin for being great company. I think Julie has the best photos… [edit: 430pm monday forgot to thank Mickey for help and fellowship!]
The '58 Nervi gattinara was ethereal and amazing, so alive, the nose was WOTN.
a close second was the ($35/bottle!) 2020 Isole E Olena Chianti Classico, an absolute goldilocks wine, this cellartracker note sums it up in words better than I can say, but the winning combination of relative delicacy and length of this wine really surprised me.
If youse are at all in that neck of the woods, I strongly recommend you visit joe’s store - unsurprisingly a great collection of a range of italian stuff but also a good spectrum of other things (as well as whisky/liquor) from everyday to collectible wines, picked with his gimlet eye. Sea Cliff village and the harbor/beach is a nice day out to wander too…
Thank you everyone for the support. This has been a dream of mine for sometime (probably even before I was aware of it) and I am beyond grateful for all of the support in making it real!
As for the wines, the 1958 Nervi Gattinara was for sure the winner for me. I had 1 bottle about a year ago, and found out I had strep shortly after, so I didn’t really get to enjoy it, but I remembered it being a bit more sharp, and a bit more ferrous. Last night’s bottle was singing!
Sadly, I think the 67 needed to be stood up longer, though it showed well, I think it would have showed more fruit had I been able to deal better with the fine sediment. You can see the difference in clarity in the last photo.
I was also very happy with how approachable Ar.Pe.P.e’s Inferno Sesto Canto Riserva was!
And as @phil.lukeman mentioned the 2020 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico was remarkable. It has been my favorite wine of the past handful of months, and I am super excited to see it as it evolves over the years.
Looks awesome. Both the store and the lineup.
Nice choice on the Frizzante. Pop top if I remember from drinking it in the past. A very affordable step up from the everyday ubiquitous Prosecco.
