2003 LP unfortunately is not in a good spot…and newer vintages of LP r clearly designed to drink early and more fruit forward…as is P. Clement …good wines but far from classic for my palate…the '00 D’armailhac completely dismantled the '03 LP in a recent tasting.
Robert, if you’re concerned about Right Bank wines, I could leave those Figeacs and La Conseillante at home…
LOL, bring those bitches! I only won’t drink the new Rollandized versions!
Two of my five favorite right bank estates. Well, used to be. And now they get big Suckling points.
I was thinking about what u were saying Alfert and I was looking over some bottles of right bank Bordeaux…I noticed over the last 20 years (give or take) the alcohol levels have successively crept up…drink older La grave a pomerol and taste them now or any right bank wine now and your like “what is this sorcery?”
Amazing tasting Pat…that R. Segla has me itching…I am a sucker for a great Margaux
How did the 02 Palmer show “weird”?
Interesting about the Palmer because (though different vineyards) the alter ego was beautiful
I brought the Palmer and had a glass or two. I wouldn’t say it showed ‘weird’. It was soft and delicate, black-fruited, decent complexity, but lacked pizzazz / impact factor. Might have been a little lost in that crowd of wines. Decent steak match.
86’ rausan- has been a freak for years, brilliant wine.
I had a very small pour at the very end of the night, so I don’t put any stock in my reaction. That said, it tasted cooked. I’m sure what you experienced earlier in the evening was much more representative.
Heck of lineup.
